OUR HUNTING PACKAGES ARE A 5 DAY 4 NIGHT PACKAGE. Identification The black bear (Ursus americanus) is the smallest and most widely distributed of the North American bears. Adults ... moretypically weigh 100 to 400 pounds (45 to 182 kg) and measure from 4 to 6 feet (120 to 180 cm) long. Some adult males attain weights of over 600 pounds (270 kg). They are massive and strongly built animals. Black bears east of the Mississippi are predominantly black, but in the Rocky Mountains and
westward various shades of brown, cinnamon, and even blond are common. The head is moderately sized with a straight profile and tapering nose. The ears are relatively small, rounded, and erect. The tail is short (3 to 6 inches [8 to 15 cm]) and inconspicuous. Each foot has five curved claws about 1 inch (2.5 cm) long that are non-retractable. Bears walk with a shuffling gait, but can be quite agile and quick when necessary. For short distances, they can run up to 35 miles per hour (56 km/hr). They are quite adept at climbing trees and are good swimmers.

Habitat

Black bears frequent heavily forested areas, including large swamps and mountainous regions. Mixed hardwood forests interspersed with streams and swamps are typical habitats. Highest growth rates are achieved in eastern deciduous forests where there is an abundance and variety of foods. Black bears depend on forests for theirseasonal and yearly requirements of food, water, cover, and space.

Food Habits

Black bears are omnivorous, foraging on a wide variety of plants and animals. Their diet is typically determined by the seasonal availability of food. Typical foods include grasses, berries, nuts, tubers, wood fiber, insects, small mammals, eggs, carrion, and garbage. Food shortages occur occasionally in northern bear ranges when summer and fall mast crops (berries and nuts) fail. During such years, bears become bolder and travel more widely in their search for food. Human encounters with bears are more frequent during such years, as are complaints of crop damage and livestock losses.

Marten River offers amazing Waterfowl hunting (also called duck hunting, goose hunting, grouse hunting or wildfowling) is the practice of hunting ducks, geese, or other waterfowl for ... morefood and sport. In many western countries, commercial waterfowl hunting is prohibited, and duck hunting is primarily an outdoor sporting activity.

Many types of ducks and geese share the same habitats, have overlapping or identical hunting seasons, and are hunted using the same methods. Thus it is not uncommon to take several different species of waterfowl in the same outings.

Bird Small Game Calls

In old times, a duck call was a very simple woodwind instrument. It had a barrel, a sounding board and a reed. Hunters would grunt into the call while saying "hut", "quit" or "ut". With the improvement of calls and calling techniques the best callers are able to use no voice. The most prevalent and huntedduck in the United States, the mallard, makes the well known "quack" sound many associate with ducks. Other species make many different sounds, ranging from high-pitched whistles to very low, grunt-like quacks. There are calls for almost all species of ducks. Pintails, teal, wood ducks, divingducks and other ducks including the calls of both the male, or drake and the female, or hen.

In many species, the call of the drake (male) is different from that of the hen (female). Mallard drakes make a lower pitch, longer quack than the hen mallard. This call is often used while feeding and when a mallard drake is landing. It gives the other birds a heads up. The quack of a mallard drake requires voice and is replicated by humming into a special whistle-like call. This whistle is often called a 6-in-1 whistle, due to the fact that it can replicate six different duck species sounds.

In teal, the drakes make a call of short bursts of a high pitch whistle. The "teet! (pause) teet! (pause) teet!-teet!" or any other order of repetition. This call can be made by blowing short bursts of air into the "6-in-1" whistle.

The majority of duck sounds such as quacking that people have heard and are familiar with comes from females, or hen, mallards. Hen mallards are extremely vocal and this is probably why the number one call for duck hunting in North America is a hen mallard call.

Blinds

There are numerous types of structures that qualify as duck blinds. Blinds can be temporary or permanent. They are very effective at concealing hunters and making their movements un-noticed.

For hunting over water, the types of blinds are almost unlimited.

A blind may be constructed out of plywood. Many of these permanent blinds look like a small shack with an opening that faces the water and a portion of the sky.

Often creating a temporary, natural blind as a method of concealment is a hunter's best bet. This is done by using native grasses or marsh vegetation and natural material and simply hiding in a tree, clump of grass or a shrub. More sophisticated natural blinds may have large logs or branches leaned together or lashed together using rope.

Temporary blinds are common in protected and public areas where a permanent fixture is forbidden. Temporary blinds can be very simple and usually require a three dimensional enclosure to conceal hunters from circling flocks.

With the growing popularity of motorcraft such as boats in waterfowl hunting, many individuals have chosen to use boat blinds also known as pop-up blinds. Boat blinds are used to conceal a hunter when hunting out of a boat. Boat blinds can be hand made or are available from manufacturers.

There are two common types of blinds for land and field based waterfowl hunting: pit-blinds and layout-blinds. The pit blind is a solid structure that is placed into a hole in the ground or on the bank of a waterbody. Lay out blinds allow a hunter to have a low profile in a field without digging a hole. It is made of a metal frame and canvas. The hunter crawls in and lies down in the blind. When birds are coming in the hunter can sit up and shoot.

Moose Hunting: During the Ontario hunt the search for moose begins, in fact the true Hunting begins! There is nothing more exhilarating than the Ontario moose hunt. I personally just ... morestarted to hunt in Ontario in 2006 and I have grown a new respect for those that can sit in a tree stand for 10-12 hours a day and don’t go mad! Hunting is like meditation but for the entire day… You try to keep your mind focused on the hunt but it tends to wonder, and by wonder I mean ALL OVER THE PLACE. Just waiting for moose to come through your path is a task on its own but when they do! HA! It takes a skilled hunter to remain calm while he/she is moose hunting in Marten River, Ontario. Book with “Olive the Lake” for your Ontario Moose hunt!

You may only hunt wolves and coyotes under the authority of your small game licence. In WMUs 43-45 and 59-95, only your small game licence is required. In WMUs 1A, 1C, 1D, 2-42, 46-50 ... moreand 53-58, the following regulations apply:

• The wolf/coyote hunting season is closed from April 1 to September 14.

• You may only hunt wolves and coyotes under the authority of your small game licence accompanied by a wolf/coyote game seal purchased at licence issuers and participating ServiceOntario centres. A valid small game licence is required in order to purchase a wolf/coyote game seal. You can purchase a maximum of two wolf/coyote game seals per calendar year. The seals may be purchased separately or at the same time.

• Party hunting of these animals is not permitted.

• You are required to immediately attach your wolf/coyote game seal to the wolf/coyote you have killed.

You must complete and mail a mandatory questionnaire on your wolf/coyote hunting activity and harvest by January 15 of the year following the hunt. You must submit the questionnaire even if you bought a seal but did not hunt. Mandatory questionnaires will be mailed to hunters by the ministry in December. You should mail your completed questionnaire to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Big Game Harvest Assessment Program, 1350 High Falls Road, Bracebridge, ON P1L 1W9.

Wolf hunting is the practice of hunting gray wolves (Canis lupus) or other lupine animals. Wolves are mainly hunted for sport, for their skins, to protect livestock, and, in some rare cases, to protect humans. Wolves have been actively hunted since 12,000 to 13,000 years ago, when they first began to pose threats to livestock vital for the survival of Neolithic human communities. Historically, the hunting of wolves was a huge capital and manpower intensive operation, requiring miles of netting, specialized net-carts and big drying sheds for storing and drying nets. The threat wolves posed to both livestock and people was considered significant enough to warrant the conscription of whole villages under threat of punishment, despite the disruption of economic activities and reduced taxes. The hunting of gray wolves, while originally actively endorsed in many countries, has become a controversial issue in some nations. Opponents see it as cruel, unnecessary and based on misconceptions, while proponents argue that it is vital for the conservation of game herds and as pest control
