Here is a great look at some unusual vintage advertising from the Shakespeare Fishing Tackle company! The company was founded in 1897. And this envelope dates from 1947-the 50th anniversary of the firm. The front of the envelope shows the new glass fiber Wonderod, along with the matching Wondereel-both proclaiming"Shakespeare Fine Tackle-Honor Built for Fifty Years. The back of the envelope features the new Wexford Wonder Line, braided of nylon, which was shown to wear 3 times longer, and was 7 times more water resistant-as reported by the United States Testing Company in test# 76967, dated April 11, 1947. At the bottom of this side they feature four baits that catch fish-with images of the mouse, pup, dopey and grumpy-what a group! This envelope is still flat, never having been filled.
