Fishing Up for consideration is a vintage ABU Garcia 522 baitcasting reel. The foot of this reel is marked 85-1 86-87. Mechanically. The reel functions flawlessly. Cosmetically, the reel has a little wer on the top of the right side cover and the left inner frame. The left side cover has some minor oxidation. On the bright side, the reel does present fairly welll with bright vivid graphics and it's red spool. This is a solid reel that is very suitable for fishing or adding to a vintage tackle collection. It will fit all 5000 sized reels that use ultra-cast(separate spool and axle) I take a OEM Abu Garcia wiffle spool and added extra porting to reduce the weight 15% over stock then have them re-anodized satin black. They look good and perform even better! For those that don't know. Reducing the rotating mass(the weight of the spool and fishing line together) increases casting performance. Abu Garcia Ambassadeur TOURNAMENT PRO 5600 C
This is a very lightly used Ambassadeur reel which has been sitting in my garage forever. It is at little dirty. But it was probably only actually cast 25 times at most. The gear ratio is 5.3:1. I do not know the year it was made. Other numbers on the bottom side of the reel are: TP56 1377 On the other side. There it show LB/YDS starting 12 12/175 and then what may be a metric set of measurements. My eyes are too bad to see. Also. The crank handle seems a little loose, but I am assuming it can be tightened my removing the small faceplate that secures it and adjusting it.

Until their introduction you adjusted the drag on foxed spool reels via a knob on the front of the spool. Without one of these you couldn't catch a Carp! The reels. Especially these large Cardinal 57's were also popular with Salmon and Pike fishermen. They were very easy to use and operated smoothly.
