The only blemish I could find was the scratch on the reel seat as seen in the last picture. This may have been a manufacturing defect as the rod shows no signs of use. Very Nice Vintage Bamboo Fly/ Casting Rod
The pictures show a very nice Vintage Bamboo Fly/Cast Rod. The rod is in very good condition. It is 2 piece and is 64 1/2" in length. The cork handle is very nice as is the reel seat. There aren't any splits in the bamboo. All the wraps are tight. All the guides are there and look to be original. This rod has a plug on the end of the handle that can be removed so that the bamboo rod can be reinserted into the handle to become a fly rod. The only markings on the rod to indicate manufacturer is an"EAGLE" logo on the lower portion of the rod by the reel seat. Please look at the pictures to see how nice the rod is. Vintage Montague Redwing Bamboo Fly Rod, 8 1/2 ', Light Trout
Very rare Montague Redwing Bamboo Fly Rod in the Light Trout Action. 8.5 foot, 3 piece, 3 tip sections(one seems an extra tip section at 1/2 inch short as the tip top has been reset and the wraps are darker on this tip section) factory bag, factory tube(in great shape with label at 100% but some printing gone) in minty shape- just beautiful as Redwings can be. reel seat is excellent, grip is soft with the slightest ridging, reel seat at 3 1/3 inches long and the grip at 5 1/4 inches long fit the light action of the rod, labeled Light Trout on tube(see pic) with thin tip sections( see pic with dime for reference) and an action that would be a light dry fly of that era as the butt section is firm and would handle larger fish. ferrules measure at 16& 9.5/64ths, to my hand) a 3-4 weight action. beautiful cane work, nicely flamed(photos do ... morenot do justice) straight as a string, sections of equal length and ferrules are tight to the wood, ferrule fit is excellent with a moderate pop from the butt/mid connection and a lesser pop from the mid/tip connections. just beautiful work here- all wraps above the grip, the decal, and Genuine Tonkin at 100% Just beautiful craft from that era- and a modern light in hand, light 3-4 weight in vintage cane, with 3 tip sections. to be enjoyed. This is an interesting early 9' fly fishing rod. It has the name"Sunline Flymaster" hand painted on the 6 sided bamboo shaft. It is in excellent shape with the only thing missing is the eye off of the tip of one of the ends. This is a classic 3 piece rod with an extra tip section. The bamboo is straight. And all wraps are tight. The part missing the tip is not broke off. The metal tip just slipped offof the bamboo rod. The butt section measures 37" the middle section measures 36" and the tips measure 36-1/2" The three pieces weigh 6 ounces. This rod came out of an Estate in Helena Montana. Thanks for looking. You are bidding on a fantastic Wright McGill Granger DeLuxe. 8.5 ft, 4.5 oz. 3/2. 3 pieces with 2 tips, original cloth sack in almost perfect condition, and what looks to be the original brownish colored aluminum tube. The rod casts a 4 weight DT modern fly line beautifully. All sections are equal length, straight as an arrow, reel seat functions like new, ferrules have seen some wear but fit tightly and there is no clicking when casting. There are two wraps that I have shown in the picture that are darker than the other wraps. I am not sure why. All the wraps look great and representative of an original wrap, however, not being the original owner I can not state for a fact that everything is original. The cork looks great, varnish looks great. This is ... morea great looking rod and it is ready to fish as is. This rod. For those that don't know is positioned just below the Granger Registered and Granger Premier, meaning the bamboo was the finest around, more so than the Aristocrat, Favorite, Special, and way better than the Victory. The 8'6" length in my opinion is perfect for the fisherman out there, rather than the collectors. Let the collectors keep paying way to much for the shorter rods that don't have the length to high stick or mend the way a fisherman needs to catch fish. The shorter rods, may cast a little better, but I would be willing to bet these longer rods catch more fish, since you have the length to maneuver the fly. This rod will cast a dainty dry or weighted wooly bugger no problem. Don't you want to be the guy on your fishing trip this year showing off what what an OLD Granger can do? I am an honest seller. I obtained the Horrocks-Ibbotson rod and the Meisselbach reel from an antique dealer in Seattle. WA many years ago and have had it displayed with my vintage fishing collection. Thus, it has not been used. The cork handle on the rod is in excellent condition and guides are in good shape. The rod is approximately 9.3 ft in length and has an extra rod tip. It was made in Utica NY. The entire set is stored in a vintage canvas case that contains an alumumn tube that portects the rod sections. Vintage Bamboo Tenkara fly rod- 5 piece. 220 cm(7' 3" with 2 tips, ferrule plugs and bag. Very good condition. Japanese Tenkara or Korean whip style fixed-line rod. Beautifully constructed with a pecan base lacquer finish. Bamboo segments(approx. 20" ea. are straight and true including each of the very fine black lacquered bamboo tip sections with green braided lillians. In terms of modern Tenkara or Keiryu rod ratings I would estimate this as having a flex characteristic of 7:3. Super light in the hand and not tip heavy. I detect a faint click in one of the bamboo ferrules when seated- it is sound and secure, just a little wiggle but I wanted to point this out nevertheless because it is not perfect. H.L. Leonard Bamboo Fly Rod Great Condition Cheap Ready to Fish 9' 3 piece 2 tip
NO RESERVE AUCTION You have the opportunity to fish with a fantastic piece of American history this spring. I have found an H.L. Leonard fly rod that is in great fishable condition without any need for work. This rod has been fished and cared for over the years. I do not know the exact model number or when it was manufactured. But it had the look and feel of a pre-fire rod. Everything is tight, with the rod just having been sent in for a re-wrap and re-varnish. It looks fantastic. Everything was rewrapped exactly how I found the rod. All the English style guides are in great condition. The ferrules are tight and pop when removed. The cork handle is in original condition as is the butternut reel seat, with hand rubbed varnish. I did not want them cleaned to retain the character of the rod. This rod comes with what I believe to be the original ... morerod bag(it is starting to get a couple holes in the bottom, but nothing 30 seconds through a sewing machine couldn't fix) and what I know to be an original Leonard rod tube. The tube shows some wear and has a couple cracks in the brass end caps but everything is solid and it proects the rod as it should. With a little polishing could be brought to look almost new. The only bad thing is that it has a short tip on the spare tip section, however could be scarfed if the new owner wanted a full length tip. I thought it cast just as well and would recommend just fishing the short tip as is. 9 foot total length. 3 piece, 2 tip. 4.4 ounces with the three full length sections. Sections: Base- 36 1/2" long. Ferrule size is 17/64, cork handle 4 3/4" long between metal checks, 7/8" in diameter at it's thickest point Mid- 36 1/2" long. Ferrule size is 17/64 male, 11/64 female Tip 1- 36 1/2" long. Here is a neat old vintage bamboo rod.One of two I am selling. I don't know bamboo rods. But the old gent I bought them from does. He said this maker was from the North West USA, and built rods during the 50's, and 60's. This rod is a 7 foot 3 piece, 2 tip rod, that is marked for a line of HEH which, I am told is a 5 weight. I cast it with a 4, and it seemed fine. The ferrule fit is snug. And the rod, is in really great shape. The handle is all cork, and the hardware is a silver color. The rod bag is original, but not sure if the tube is. I will ship this rod for $12.00, with insurance the the US lower 48, via priority mail.

Vintage Wright& McGill Granger Victory Bamboo Fly Rod Model GV8642. 8'6 3/2 5wt. This the famed Granger 8642 made by Wright& McGill after WWII. It is the"Victory" model. 8'6, 4.2 ounce rod originally designed and made by Goodwin Granger. After his death in the 30's, Bill Phillipson took over the Granger Rod Co.and kept this rod in the inventory due to its renown as the quintessential"Western Dry Fly Rod" it was designed around a 5wt line but has been known to use 4, 5, and 6 wt lines due to its swelled butt and delicate tip which enhanced its versatility. This rod is in good shape, all sections full length, the ferrules are tight and seat correctly. The reelseat is in proper working order, moving freely. The last two pictures, the handle appears to be dark only because I had to take it with a different light to not glare out the name, hence the off color which is only because of fluorescent lighting. All models were of the 8642 were consistent high quality with the same nickel silver ferrules and reel seat and the same precise construction. Only the grading of the cane. The style of the windings and the number of guides per section varied between the higher and lower priced models. All Granger rods featured a unique tempering process with ammonia steam which gave the bamboo a distinct resiliency of action and a characteristic rich caramel color for which these rods are famous. The ferrules and the internal uplock seat with their unique design and look were made in the factory of Nickel Silver. Vintage Granger Bamboo fly rod, The Granger Rod, 3/2, full length, 1924-1934
The Granger Rod made 1924-1936. This rod is engraved on the reel seat between the knurled bands" The Grander Rod" The reel seat is marked as made by Goodwin Granger& Co. Denver. These early rods were not marked on the butt shaft with maker or model. This is a 9 1/2 foot rod and all sections are equal length 38 1/2 inchs long. All sections are reasonably straight and are in good condition with no visible problems. The Nickle Silver sliding band and soldered hood reel seat is in good condition with normal fishing wear(see pictures) The 5 1/2 inch coke bottle style cork grip is very dirty. I did not try to clean it. I would say it is in good condition considering the age of the rod.The NS ferrules are in good condition and fit nice and tight The wraps look orginal to me and are the correct B&W Jasper with Gold tipping and triple ... moreboarder wraps. The agate stripper guide and snake guides are in good condtion.The tip section wraps are a little darker in color than the the rest of the rod. The wraps are in good condition. I only found one tipping with a small amount of fraying. The rod comes with a original cloth rod bag(no markings) and a early alum. rod tube with cap. For auction is a Vintage Custom built Walton Powell Split Bamboo 5' 7" 3pc, 2WT Flyrod with tube but missing sock. The metal and wraps on eyes are great. The two wraps on either side of the logo need to be cleaned up and refinished. The cork has a few very small marks in it. So small I can't get a good picture. Antique 3/2 Phillipson "Pacemaker" Split Bamboo Fly Rod 8 foot Two Tips
All right guys I'll try to get this as best I can because I know you all know much more about these things than I currently do or ever will. Found at a local estate sale last week. The old guy said that it belonged to his father-in-law and this guy was at least 70 so. Anyway this rod measures 8 ft. not including the handle. don't know if you just measure rod or total length) Did some research and it is I believe what you guys call a 3/2 as it is a 3 piece rod with an extra tip. Please note that the tips are not the same length and have very slight difference between the two. There is almsot exactly a 1 1/2 difference between the length. The shorter one has dark red tying at the tip and at the base of it. The inner ties are(and these are around the ferrules) look to be yellow/green or gold/green as best I can tell guys as I am severely ... morecolor blind. Had the wife look and she says gold/green or yellow/green. Hopefully you will be able to see it in the pictures well. If not I'll upload more close ups. It has the hammer grip which from what I undestand is a plus also. There really is no condition issue to the rod at all. It has been cared for loved and fished for a long time. You will find the occasional nic I'm sure if you go over it with 10x loupe but overall it is a beautiful antique split bamboo rod. I doubt the wrap is original but in excellent condition and the tube is also in great condition. Don't know if it is original either but may be from what I understand WWII era tubes were of cardboard. Tin sealed bottom and screw on cap. None of the ferrules are bent or damaged and their is no fraying of any of tying anywhere. All original hasn't been tampered with. Prolly hasnt seen the light of day in many years also. I know some these worth alot some not as much so putting it out there at 750.00. If it a steal at this price it'll go quick so don't dilly dally. Wilson Bamboo Fly Rod built probably by Montague Rod Company!
This is a nice bamboo fly rod built for the Wilson Sporting Goods Comapny by my guess. Montague Rod Company. I have owned quite a few bamboo's built by Montague and would rate this as a high end model. It is 9' 12" long with each section at 39" There are many intermediates and many are missing. The stripper guide and two eyes were also missing when I got the rod. I will include a spool of red silk thread that is a close match as well as a nickle silver stripper guide and eyes to use to finish out this rod. Both tips have agate tip tops which also suggest a higher end built rod. It comes in a bag but no tube and I ship USPS with a tracking number provided to the buyer. Recently Rex Eads(the"Montyman" on the Classic Fly Rod Forum) has been exploring the topic heatedly that"yes, Union Hardwae did build quite a few models and some of very good quality" I had an old Yellowstone Special that at first I thought it was a Monty but then I got a rod that almost matched it and was stamped Union Hardware. Those of us who love the nice old bamboo's built in the twenties, thirty's and into the fifty's, if had the chance to ride back on a time machine would have many many rods we would like to know more about while we were there. Vintage 3 Piece 2 Tips Split Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod 9' 6" I do not know much about this rod but will describe it the best as I can. The only wording on it is John Crosby Bradleyville. Mich. With 3 pieces assembled- it is 9 feet 6 inches and made of Bamboo. I do not know what weight it is. Other than ONE EYE missing on the bottom section All 4 sections are in perfect condition. I'm sure an avid fishing person can put the missing eye on. The handle is wrapped with a strong type string/twine. All eyes are wrapped and secure. Up for auction an Extremely Nice 1947-1952 SOUTH BEND NO.59 9 FT. 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO FLY ROD WITH ORIGINAL LABELED BAG. The No.59 was first introduced by the South Bend Bait Company in 1936 and would sell through 1952. Because this example carries the rectangular"SOUTH BEND- A Name Famous In Fishing" rodshaft decal, we know it's a post-war model built from 1947 to 1952. I've added a photo of the original listing from South Bend's 1947 catalog. Rodshaft is also stamped"59- 9' on an opposite flat. The thumbrest on the grip still carries the original"Comficient Grip" foil label. Built from beautifully flamed Tonkin cane and comes equipped with extra tip section, Garnix stripping guide, hardened steel snake guides& tip tops, welted& serrated ferrules, hook keeper, screw-locking"Lite-Lock" ... morereel seat with chromed hardware, solid cork ventilated"Comficient" grip and wrapped in brown silk. Built in"bass" action, with an"HCH or C" catalog line weight recommendation(equivalent to today's modern 7 wt. lines) Rod is in about Very Fine condition for these, showing only very light wear. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four sections are the correct equal length and are quite straight. Original varnish remains very nice. All wraps are solid and complete. Decal and rodshaft markings are pristine. All guides, tip tops, ferrules(which"pop" nicely) winding check and hook keeper are excellent. Reel seat is superb, working perfectly and showing little evidence of use. The cork grip remains nice. This rod just hasn't seen much action at all. Put up in the original bag, which is in at least Fine condition, very solid and serviceable. The bag label is correctly marked for the rod. A very choice post-war combo from South Bend. Wraps sound, ferrules very nice with clean"pop" and tip is straight with no sets and the rod is overall very little used. A very nice rod, used but very good condition. Comes with maker's cloth sack, which has a spot of white paint on it but is sturdy and in good shape except for that spot of paint. No tube. Will ship in PVC tube.
