The center rod or middle rod should have three eyelets on it but there is only one. All of the other eyelets seem to be in place and look good. This item is a very nice example of a rare antique"High Grade" 8-foot bamboo fly rod crafted by Dame. Stoddard& Co. Boston, Mass. circa 1910. This is a 3-piece rod(2-tips) with the original fitted wooden form case/storage/holder, and the signed original cloth sleeve. This piece is stamped on the rod butt- High Grade, Dame, Stoddard and Co. Makers, Boston. There is also a stamped patent date of 1906(see photo) This is a very well crafted, high quality antique rod which even has agate( rod tip inserts. Rod appears to be complete and is in the very nice original condition in which it was found in a local estate. 1956 ORVIS 8 1/2' 7 wt BAMBOO Fly Rod 5 oz 15/64 Ferrule **COLLECTOR GRADE**
Here is one gorgeous. Chocolaty brown Orvis rod that is in excellent++ condition for being almost 60 years old. There is not much to say that the photos do not show. Everything is tight, including the guides and ferrules. The only thing that I can find on this whole rod is a tiny scrape of varnish on the word"Battenkill" otherwise this is as close to a new rod that you can get. Even the bluing is still dark. It was designed to cast an HCH which is equivalent to a modern 7, but I would not hesitate to try a DT6 because the general consensus is that Orvis rods are known for throwing a line size less than their designation. The bottom line is that it is a fine looking rod that is ready to be fished or collected and needs nothing. I have this rod priced to sell, but if it does not, I will probably keep it in my quiver because of it ... morebeing a perfect all around rod for medium sized rivers and I'm having a hard time letting it go. Original label is marked 9 Feet and 5 Ounces. There are Four Pieces to the rod which I believe two are tips or rod ends. I showed this to a dealer who specializes in hunting and fishing and he gave this the thumbs up as a nice clean original rig. Vintage Wright & McGill Bamboo FA Water Seal 8.5' Fly Rod Original Rod Tube
I can't tell you a lot about this rod. But my husband caught a lot of fish with it. As he has alzheimer's he can't share the particulars, so the information below is what I have been able to learn: The bamboo fly rods introduced by the venerable Wright& McGill Company were the impregnated"Water Seal" rods which appeared for the first time in the company's 1952 catalog alongside the full line of traditional Granger rods. They were made of"densified" tonkin cane. However. The new Water Seals were offered in only two grades(FA and FB) and two lengths/weights(8 1/2 ft. 4 1/2 oz. and 9 ft. 5 oz. Weights were without reel seat. The Water Seals were advertised as being"Hand Made" and the"Super Rod" on a decal applied above the grip check. The FA rods were wrapped burgundy with pale yellow ... moretipping while the FB's were just the opposite-light yellow with burgundy tipping. The FA featured"Monel" ferrules and reel seat which unlike nickel silver. Was utilized to prevent tarnishing. Both grades had full Wells grips and the familiar Granger up lock reel seat. The FA retailed for $75 and the FB for $50 in 1952. Those prices were equal to the Granger Premier and Favorite grades respectively. The Water Seals were sold in very high quality rod tubes with matching bags.

The pieces each measure 34 5/8" 38" 33 5/8" and 30 1/4 respectively" On the handle of the rod is printed"PATENTED JAN 22 1907" There is no manufacturer's name, but the rod may be a"Montague" since a patent was issued to that company on that date. The rod is in very good condition- all the eyes are firmly in place. There are some signs of wear to the handle(see photos) I am not an expert in bamboo fly rods. JC Higgins 3034 painted in white over green oval. This is the lighter colored one in pictures and comes with a canvas case. I don't think it is original. It has stamped on it"cover, spare barrel M8" I assume it was for a gun barrel or some military related item. The rod fits nicely into it and it makes a good case. I believe it is missing one of the loops to guide the string, this would be The largest one or the only one on the first section. South Bend Bait Company. Indiana is just about all I can read from the yellow sticker around the cardboard tube Rod number two comes in. Near the grip it says"Genuine Tonkin Cane" there is something yellow written next to ... moreit in cursive but I can't read it. The name of a previous owner is faintly visible in red on the opposite side of handle area. I believe the last piece with smallest eyelets should have a metal cap on the end which inserts into the middle section. Instead it is bare wood but fits snugly in place. This ride comes in a cardboard tube with metal bottom. I believe it is what it was originally sold in. It's in pretty rough shape but serves it's purpose. This is a 4 piece Abbey& Imbries hexagon Fly Rod. The tag reads Abbey&Imbrie Fishing Tackle New York EST.1820. The fly rod is made of 3 pieces and it is 8 feet 8 inches long. the fourth piece is a 2nd end piece that makes the rod a little stiffer. It looks like there is one eye missing on the first piece of the pole and two eyes missing on the 2nd piece. There is minor color loss/lightening on the end of the pole. This auction is for a vintage Orvis Battenkill 8’Bamboo 2/2 Fly Rod Configuration that includes extra Tippet section with original Rod Sleeve/Sock. Rod Tube, original 8-page Orvis Hand Tag Rod Booklet and original Triangular Cardboard Shipping Tube including approximately 50% of the original Orvis Paper Shipping Label. The 2/2 HCH 4 ¼ oz. Bamboo Fly rod was built 11/6/61 by Orvis rod builders Calvin Skinner and George Reid working with Wes Jordan who ran the Orvis Company at that time until 1970. The bamboo rod comes with the extra tippet section, all three sections are of equal length with no sets and have S/N 30962 detailed on bamboo adjacent to ferrules, butt section is detailed with“Orvis Impregnated Battenkill” above hook keeper eyelet(SEE PIC) all line guides are complete, red/maroon wraps are tight, ferrules in great shape and ... morerod itself is in excellent shape and well taken care of. Note: The extra tippet section is very tight going into female ferrule on butt section. I can’t quite get it to seat fully and do not want to force. The tube label has all the pertinent rod specs and Orvis recommends fishing with a double tapered 6 wgt. Fly Line. Cosmetically, the rod looks great but is not perfect. There are a series of small dings dents on an edge where two bamboo flats intersect just adjacent to butt sections grey agate line guide that have what looks to be tape around them(SEE PIC) These are basically the only distressed marks on the rod plus the normal discoloration/wear of the cork handle and a few worn letters on the word Impregnated(SEE PIC) The green rod sleeve in excellent shape as well as the metal tube with the exception of a good sized dent approximately mid way down and the triangular cardboard shipping tube protected by a wax filmed paper is in very good shape especially the paper shipping label. The cork looks nice and the Rod has scratches. But this one has much more detail than the other one. 8.5 feet long and says WF4 what ever that means. Montague "Fishkill" 8'6" Bamboo Fly Rod (circa 1939) w/case
This is an very rare bamboo fly rod. In nearly new condition. It is a 3 piece rod, with and extra tip section. The original canvas sleeve and leatherette tube are included. Everything is in tact and beautiful. I don't think that it was fished at all. This would be a wonderful wall hanger, or, you could definitely take it out on the river. Its in very good condition with very little sign of use. There is a makers signiture on the rod but as you will see its worn away and i cant make out what it says. There are also model numbers on the rod as you will see from the pictures which are clear and visable. On the tube it states that this item has come from the USA and further research has confirmed this. The tube has other details ref the model number but that also has worn away. But you can see a name on the side of what i assume is the origenal owner in the states, so there ... moreis some history to trace. Gorgeous 1933 Hardy Palakona bamboo fly fishing rod in original cloth case. I am not 100% certain how to measure length but looks to be 12 feet 1 inch long. Accompanying tag indicates'1933 Salmon' Rod looks to be in good condition. I have included photos of the only two blemishes I can see- some fraying around one of the eyelets. This is an old bamboo fishing rod in a metal case with rubber ends. The ends are marked: Pat.2585602 WEBER of Stevens Point. This has a carved wood holder for the 4 bamboo rods enclosed. Metal ends. The thickest one is 43-1/2" long. There are no manufacturer inscriptions however it does have characteristics of a pre 1930’s Montague Chubb. It can be used as 8’ or 8’3” rod with the two tip sections. I would estimate it would balance well with a three weight fly line. The 4 ½” cork handle is in great condition. The 4” sliding ring reel seat would indicate the rod was made pre 1930’s. It is also in great functional condition. There are three snake eye guides on the mid and one tip section. Two on the second tip and a stripper guide/hook keeper on the bottom section. The two tip sections are not original to the rod however they and all of the sections fit together perfectly when assembled and have the distinct pop sound when ... moreremoved. VINTAGE MONTAGUE CHUBB EARLY 1900S SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD& REEL This auction is for a vintage three piece refinished 9’8” split bamboo rod with a fully functional antique skeleton fly reel(no name and works in smooth retieve) There are no manufacturer identifications however it does have characteristics of a Montague Chubb rod based on the reel seat. Winding check and ferrules. I would estimate the fly line weight at a five. The 5” cork handle is in very good functional condition. The 4 ¾” nickel plated brass sliding ring reel seat would indicate the rod was made between 1900-1920. It does have a few dings but mounts the fly reel nicely as the pictures show. There are four snake eye guides on the mid and tip sections and a stripper guide/hook keeper on the bottom section. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and ... morehas the distinct pop sound when removed. The tip section has a natural set which will not affect the casting of the rod. There is small chip on the bottom section which was resident to the rod. It will cause no ill affect(see picture) I meticulously stripped the old varnish.
