Vintage 68" Wooden Wood 6 Sided 2-Pc. Bamboo? Fishing Rod w/ Ocean City 112 Reel
I just got this from an estate sale and I'm not a fisherman so I don't know much about it. The wood is nice and solid but I'm not sure if you call it bamboo. The one metal piece that connects the other half of the rod to the half with the reel is loose and comes off as seen in the one picture so I assume it would have to be glued. I can't seem to get the reel off. The one part that I assume turns the whole way down to release the part that holds the reel only turns to a point then stops. I'm not sure if there's an issue there or I'm not doing something right and I'm not certain if the reel works because when I turn the handle the inside slightly turns then stops but with no resistance again I'm not sure if I'm not doing something right. This little rod is in good condition and ready to go fishing. I suspect that it was refinished several years ago. The H-I logo is missing. But"Princess" is clearly written in white script. The top and all sides have cosmetic issues. However. It is structurally sound. If a Tiki Bar is perfect or brand new, it doesn't really capture the concept of what hanging out and being laid back at a Tiki Bar is all about. All the realwood trim. The bar top, and bamboo were burnished by hand and then sealed with semi gloss polyurethane. The two bar stools included are tubular steel and have their original. Black, glossy finish. They have never been repainted and do not have any rust. I bought then a while back and have only ever used them inside. The seats are 26" high and cushions are wide and roomy. The upholstered panels on the bar and on the stools was purchased in Charleston a couple of years ago at Pet Helpers Retail Shop for another project. This Tiki Bar is recommended for indoor use only. Vintage antique 9' Bamboo Fly Rod - 2 tip sections
For fly fishing as it used to be. You just don't find fly rods of this caliber made anymore. From a time before mass produced fishing gear. I can't fix the year of manufacture. But it is certainly 40 to 50 years old. Likely older yet. A unique and antique 4 piece(2 rod-end sections) bamboo fly rod. Sport King Tonkinized Model 28. After an extensive search I have not found another Model 28 for sale or in existence. This fly rod appears to have been used judging by the darkened cork handle. But no damage whatsoever to this instrument. All of the sections are equal length, with no repairs evident. No dents, scratches, loose or missing eyes, not even frayed or unraveled silk. The rod really is pristine, please see the pictures and zoom in. As do other high end fly rods. This comes safe-ed in it's original cotton pouch and aluminum ... moreholder. Each fly rod section safely fits into a sewn cotton fabric holder with individual storage pouches for each piece. Vintage 8'6" bamboo Fly Rod from the 1930's. The case says it is a medium rod. Each piece is 34" long. Everything looks really great. No chips or cracks or damage to the resin or the binding. Cork looks good. All in all a great set up. Nice original case. Hard to find one in this condition.

JAPANESE HANGING SCROLL: Antique"Tiger and Bamboo" by Katayama Naokage. Late 1600's, Early Edo Period This is a handsome and venerable Hanging Scroll with a painting on paper by the artist. Katayama Naokage. Who was active in the late 1600's and very early 1700's. He most likely made this painting in the late 1600's. The elegant mounting is new. Born in 1628. Naokage was a Kano-ha painter, but little is known of his life and career. His works are relatively rare. In the present painting. Naokage does his best to give us a convincing representation of a fierce Tiger, lurking out of a tall stand of Bamboo, glaring intently at the viewer with his left paw raised. But Tigers are not indigenous to Japan, and Naokage was working well before the time that his island nation opened to the rest of the world in the mid 1800's. ... moreSo it is highly unlikely that he ever actually saw a Tiger. But he and other Japanese artists of his time were fascinated by this fearful predator and made many paintings of them. The only actual information they had at their command were tales of Portuguese traders who where allowed to trade with Japan at this time and perhaps a pelt which they brought with them. Naokage has the distinctive striped coat of his Tiger. But he has no knowledge of the skeletal and muscular structure of the beast. And so his Tiger's physiognomy and physique are a little fanciful. The face, intense as it may be, looks more like an inquisitive house cat than a fierce jungle predator. These curious and charming considerations aside. Naokage shows his true mastery both in the bold composition, with a wonderful stand of Bamboo arching over the Tiger, his superb painting technique and use of delicately balanced limited palette. I particularly enjoy the only touches of color in the face of the Tiger: the yellow eyes.
