The blank shows its age; however, it is in great shape and it is free of any defects. The ferrules fit tight and this rod has a nice action. All of the ferrules have over a 3/32" gap, except the tip ferrule gap is right around 1/16". This rod's serial number is "4846" and it is labeled on all sections. This rod comes with the tube and sock. The tube has a dent in it, and I believe the cap is a replacement. All-in-all, a nice rod to fish with or collect. Rare Vintage Sure Strike Special Fiberglass Fly Fishing Rod 8 Foot Fred DeBelle
For sale at a buy it now fixed price is this rare find. It is a fiberglass fly fishing rod that is marked Sure Strike Special and also has SS80 marked on it in ink by hand. It is a two piece rod with a very unusual cardboard/faux leather tube. Given the location in Denver that we found this and the look of the rod and the hardware. I am pretty confident that this is Fred DeBelle made rod using a Phillipson Eponite blank and a Phillipson seat. Note the quality wraps, sealed top of the cork, and the gold plated eyes. DeBelle. a one time maker for Phillipson began making his own line of rods using primarily Phillipson parts and blanks but also some of the early Wright McGill hardware that was also made in Denver. I knew Fred briefly back in the day, having taken a rod making class from him through a Wheatridge tackle shop. This is similar to ... morerods I saw at the time. It likely is a 1950s rod marketed through the Gart Brothers Sports Palace in Denver as many of Fred's rods were. In the style of the time. The line weight for which it is balanced is not marked on the rod. However, it loads up and throws a WF-6-F fly line very smoothly in my back yard. Condition is likely used but certainly not used much. It looks pristine. Even the cork is clean. Fiberglass fly rod 8’ 2pc on Phillipson blank
I believe this to be an old Orvis kit rod using the Fullflex blank. The early yellow Full Flex blanks that Orvis used were supplied by Phillipson. This one is fitted with the Reeder-McGill seat. Which was the standard seat for Orvis kit rods, and Foulproof Aetna guides, suggesting it was assembled sometime maybe in the early 70’s. The seat works just fine, the ferrules have no issues, and none of the guides are ready for replacement yet. The grip is the standard cigar profile used by Orvis in the early 70's. Wraps are still secure. There is a small scuff above the grip on the butt section. Full Flex rods in this length originally were spec’d for 7wt lines but you may do OK with a 6wt. These had the durability we all recall fiberglass rods for, and this would make a nice streamer rod. OK. This is my final rewrite for this rod. Decide for yourself what it is before bidding. It's yellow with nothing written on it. It's 8' long It has a Reeder-McGill reel seat. It has Aetna Foulproof guides It has no fractures There is a surface scuff on the butt section. There is a spot on the grip where someone carved out the cork for the caster's thumb. Up for bid. Is a vintage fiberglass Fenwick fly rod blank with grip and reel seat already installed. Model FL96-7. Sold originally as a fenwick rodbuilder blank. This is a collectible Fenwick rod, 8' 2 piece tip over butt ferrule. Listed as a 7 weight. This rod was assembled previously and was so poorly done by the original owner that I bought it and removed everything down to the blank. Some ghosting where the previous guides were attached. Outside of this the blank is clean and ready for the new guides to be attached and epoxied. A great opportunity for a hobbyist builder to try finishing this rod- a great project. The overall quality and condition is excellent. It's a crisp, clean, gently used fly rod in amazing condition. On a scale of 1-10, factoring in age, etc. and with condition being subjective, I'd rate this rod an easy(very conservative) 8.9++. It does have a couple of VERY MINOR rubs or varnish blemishes, but they're too minor to photograph and hardly merit mentioning. Vintage Heddon #8547 "Mark Golden 50" 8 1/2' Fiberglass Fly Rod
An old fiberglass Heddon#8547"Mark Golden 50" 2 piece 8 1/2 foot fly rod. Possibly a 50th anniversary rod? 100% original. An almost translucent golden color. Gold plated guides. Glass sleeve ferrule. Still has some of the protective plastic on the cork and several original labels. Rod was probably used evidenced by several scratches on the metal butt cap but overall. It shows little actual fishing time. The butt section is straight, the tip section has a very slight"curve" angeled up from the snake guides. With a line installed it will hang straight. This is a vintage fenwick fiberglass 2 piece 7 1/2 foot fly rod in mint condition. Rod comes with a fenwick tube and sock but I don't believe they are the correct size. Numbers don't match up. Rod was manufactured in the USA. Lines guides are very tight and glossy with no damage. Labels are very clean and reel seat fenwick engraving very sharp. See pictures. Model is FF 756. Vintage Lee Wulff 7021 7' 0" 3.2 oz fiberglass fly fishing rod, Garcia Conolon
This vintage Garcia-Conolon'Lee Wulff' model 2071 2/1#7(6) fiberglass fly rod was Made in USA in the early 1970's. It is all-original. With no damage or repairs. Also included is the original aluminum storage tube and green, 2-compartment storage sack. It is 7'0" when assembled. Factory-rated for#7 AFTMA lines. But also casts a DT6 line very nicely. I don't think the rod has ever been used. The cork handle is a round"Ritz-style" FYI: some Wulffs had a squared-off"quadrate" shaped grip. Chrome hook keeper. Stripping guide(about a size 8mm) and snake guides and tip-tip are beautiful as are the thread winidings and protective finish. These Lee Wulff series rods featured a unique stainless steel spigot ferrule. Labeling on the rod is perfect. This rod is an early model because it is labeled with a ... moreserial number- 25354(FYI: later models do not have serial numbers) This is probably the most desirable taper of the Wulff collection- especially from a modern trout fishing standpoint. This rod is simply a fantastic. Well-performing fishing tool. It has a sweet, pleasing medium action, and can handle a wide assortment of fly/leader setups: dry files, hopper/dropper, multiple wet flies, weighted nymphs or streamers; this rod can do it all.
