c.1895 E. J. Martin's Sons Kingfisher Silk Fishing ( Fish ) Line
c.1895 spool of Kingfisher braided silk fishing line from E. J. Martin's Sons. Rockville Conn. The spool measures 1-1/4 in. in dia. and 1-3/4 in. in length and appears to be a full or nearly full spool. The E. J. Martin's Sons company started making fishing line around 1883 and continued until it was purchased in 1919 by the Horton Manufacturing Co. of Bristol, Conn. Horton continued with the Kingfisher trade mark but changed its appearance from the original design- more artistic with more color. The most popular and recognizable original Martin's Sons trademark(c. 1908 on) was the Kingfisher sitting on a bare tree limb with lake and hills in the background and Kingfisher printed above the tree limb. The trademark on this spool shows a tree limb to the rear of the Kingfisher and extending to the front of him- this limb having ... moreleaves. It also shows a more confined lake with hills in the close background and larger mountains in the far background with Kingfisher printed below the scene- the design of the Kingfisher itself is also different. This Martin's Sons trademark design is not commonly seen and is quite possibly(probably) their first label design. Having no color on the label also lends itself to an early manufacture date. This spool of line could have been manufactured as early as the 1880s. Thanks for looking!

Vintage fishing items - stringers, hook holder, gaff handle and hand line holder
I have 2 really nice rope stringers and the metal points and rings appears to be copper. They are in very nice shape and can be cleaned up to display great. There is also an old snelled hook holder that is made out of metal and has a bunch of hooks on one side. It is made to put snelled hooks on both sides. There is also a hand line of some sort made by Florida Fishing Tackle Mfg. Co of St. Petersburg. Florida. The final item is a wood handle for a gaff hook(I am assuming)

He sold all manner of very interesting OLD things I have never seen before and he had positive vibes. That’s all I can tell you about it. From its color and texture. It is unlike any other cordage I have ever seen or made from scratch on my own from natural fibers. I have NO tags, labels or other documentation. Since the day I purchased it. It has been stored indoors in a sealed plastic bag. Out of direct sunlight ... moreand safe from vermin and insects. Pair of Riviera Downrigger Fishing Reels w 150 ft. steel line & depth counters
Pair of Riviera Downrigger fishing reels with 150 feet of steel line on each and working depth counters. Aluminum frame. Surface mount or recess mount. 5 foot 8 inch" outbar with 9.5" spool. Nice used condition with one having one corner of the crank lock broken but this is not what stops the handle. It is just a thing to flip it up with your thumb. The other side is still there and easy to use. The t-locks for the spools are both working great. I have to take the long outbars out to ship and ship them separate or the package would be too large to ship so I will send you an invoice with actual shipping rate at end of the auction. The weight it is calculating now is for the downriggers only and I would guess you will need to add $12-14 more dollars for the poles shipping when it is all said and done. Reel is plastic. While most of the rest is metal. Description of general wear from age and use(we think this is ca. 1960s) Red paint on metal parts has some chipping. The tip of the rod appears to have an aluminum coating, which has worn off on one side. All parts appear to be intact. Not fishing experts, so please be sure to check all pictures and ask questions if you need to. It has"Allam" in cursive script on the very tip, but we're not sure if this is the maker of the whole thing, or just that piece. A quick search revealed nothing under that name- perhaps you know.
