This is a nice. Used, custom built spinning rod, built from a G-Loomis GL2 blank. The rod was built by Gary's Custom Rods in Portland, MI. I've known Gary all of my life and he is kind of a local legend around here, known for building quality custom rods for 30 plus years. He is no longer building them due to illness. Now on to the rod: The rod is built from a G-Loomis GL2 blank. It is a 2 piece rod. Overall length is 7'6" Line weight is 8-17 lbs. And lure weight is 1/4-5/8 oz. G. Loomis FR1088-4 GL3 9' 8# 4 Piece Fly Rod In Tube
G Loomis 9 foot. 8wt, 4 piece fly rod. This rod has had little use and has been sitting in the tube not being used. I can't pick and choose my windless days on the Texas coast. And I'm not a good enough fly caster to use this rod in the wind. I'm sticking with my bait caster. Perfect for reds and spec in the Texas bay system. It's been used maybe 10 times. And always wiped down and put up after use. No boat rash on this rod. Check out the guides in the pictures. They are clean and un-bent. The zipper on the tube seized. And therefore I cut the tube open. The tube still works, but it does not close with the zipper. I'm also selling my reel in a separate auction if you are interested. Pay pal. This Gary Loomis signature model 5wt fly rod is from the 80's. It is one of the rods that Gary Loomis built his reputation on. And has been called one of the finest fly rods ever built.Rod is in very nice condition, with only a bit of discoloration in the cork handle from use.Rod was built on an IM6 graphite blank. While I am no expert on fly rods, here is what one observer had to say about this rod. I know the gl3 rods in gear fishing and would consider them to fast for a fly rod that i would like. so the IMX being faster would be a bust also for my liking. The research i have done say's that the winston IM6 blanks they used early on were built by loomis and then wrapped or finished by winston. These rods go the highest on the used market by far- from $350 up to $600 for a used rod. even much higher then the renowned sage LL rods. ... moreI had to find out why and researched that these rods built on loomis IM6 blanks some say they are the best graphite rods ever built. but then you have tom morgan rods but i'm not counting private rod builders just big companies. My friend was new to fly fishing and wanted my help with casting last winter so he was coming to the park next to me and i was practicing single spey cast's with my rods while doing this. he was having a heck of a time casting so i checked his rod and line match. his mother in law worked at loomis and got rods for cost and had bought this fly rod for him 15 years before hand. it was a 9 ft. 5 wt. and just like loomis it looked like nothing special in the build- black real seat no shine nothing to look at. so i took it from him and started testing it trying to feel for its flaws that might have been making his day a hard one. Just a few notes- i had just purchased a SAGE 9' 5 wt. LL AND A 9' 6WT. SP and had tested them weeks before and sold both in a few weeks because of the soft tips and stiff butt's. the LL felt jointed to me with its super soft tip and fast butt section. the SP felt better but doing single hand spey's kept feel

As the photos show. The upper and lower cork grips display little hint of staining from previous handling, and remain overall free from any major chips, gouges, or excessive missing fill. Still bright and shiny like it once was new, the ultra-sturdy up-locking oversized reel seat still looks great and functions perfectly too. Up for auction today are: 1– Marked: G. LOOMIS model# SB 700 Lure weight 1/32 to 1/4 Line weight 4 to 8 99% Graphite and the initials EJE. The rod measures 70 1/2” long ad is 1 piece. The handle is made of cork ad the reel seat is copper or copper plated. The rod is dark grey and the guides are held in by a slate blue material. Good condition. See last picture. I do not know if this is a repair or just extra materal but wanted to point it out. It is on the third guide form the end. 2– Marked: G. Loomis BLANK and measures 64” long ad is 1 peice. It appears there was a repaired between the 2 nd and third guides. The handle is made of cork. The reel seats are marked PAC BAY. Are plastic, are movable, they are not threaded…I guess the reel held in by compression? The rod is dark grey and the guides are held in by slate blue material.
