Here is a unique variation of the Pflueger Medalist with the Shakespeare label. This reel is interchangeable with the familiar Medalist Model 1494 1/2 and has all the recognizable features except that it has a black crank knob. Black cap, black drag adjustment screw knob and silver painted spool. This reel is identified as a Shakespeare Purist Model 7595. The back of each spool is stamped Model DJ. This reel has a black crinkled finish. This reel appears that it has not been fished. With only slight edge and back plate nicks. The spare spool has minor scratches. I do not recall seeing one of these reels on ebay, so I am assuming that this reel will make a unique addition to a collection. There are a couple of dings. And you can see a small chunk out of the base of one of the knobs, but this is one of the earliest Pflueger level wind Summitts. It has the 2 patent dates inside the head plate near the spool edge. The foot screws are slotted, and there are no markings on the foot. The reel has had its use dated back nearly 90 years. Excellent #1577 Pflueger Supreme with the jumping bass and narrow spool
The anti-reverse on the head plate rim. And the free spool button in the middle of the handle work fine. The reel has been cleaned inside and out, relubed and oiled. There is very little evidence of use with only one small rub on the rim near the"nose" which you may not even be able to see) and a bit of brassing on one pillar. They have pieces missing or other damage. They are being sold for parts or repair. Keep in mind they will have scratches. Sears reel- needs a handle and missing a knob to increase or decrease? The bail moves back and forth but sounds like it needs oil inside. Pflueger Summit- The bail does not move. It has a crack in one of the handles, as seen in the pics. probably corrosion on the spool. Shakespear Marhoff 1964- even though it is 50 years old it is in nice shape. It does need a bailer and possibly a little oil or grease on the inside. Otherwise a useable reel.
