Vintage Garcia Mitchell 402 salt water Reel
For sale is a Garcia Mitchell 402 salt water that I have complety rebuilt. I have replaced the cam and pinion gears with new/used ones I installed a new bearing and bail assembly along with a new bail spring. All parts were striped and repainted. This reel works like a new one. All of the drag componets are in this reel a work as they should. The drag is very strong as is the bail lever. Please ask any questions you may have. Tibor Freestone Reel - Satin Gold Finish - Near Mint Condition
This auction is for a Tibor Freestone Fly Reel in Tibor's standard satin gold finish. The reel is loaded with 20 lb. backing and a Scientific Anglers Mastery Saltwater WF-7-F line. It has been fished but is in near mint condition(the only mark that I see on the reel is a small"ding" to the main shaft cap screw(see picture number 3) The reel is set up as right-hand retrieve but is user-convertible to left-hand retrieve. As shown in the pictures. The name plate has my wife's name on it(Tibor's website shows that a replacement name plate costs $21, including engraving) The auction also includes the Tibor parts diagram and the original Tibor neoprene reel flap pouch. The rods are all in very good condition with no problems to the guides, tips or wraps. It appears that it has not been used or barely used and put away years ago. The cork section looks almost new, and appears to have no missing chunks. It still has the original foil label and looks good. Everything appears to be original with no repairs. The Abercrombie& Fitch catalog sold both Edward and Julius Vom Hofe reels along with Coxe reels in their 1930 salt water fishing catalog and the prices were as follows: Julius Vom Hofe 9/0 reel- $ 95.00 Edward Vom Hofe 9/0 reel- $ 95.00 J. A. Coxe 9/0 reel- $15 0.00 The price of the Coxe reel not only reflected its high quality but also is the reason you just don't see many of them around today. They were built far stronger then the Vom Hofe reels and the gearing is far superior. This nice example is in very good+ condition. The reel has aged nicely and has a warm ... morepatina. The foot has been bent so that the reel sits up higher on the rod. Let me start with a quick history of how we discovered this amazing reel. We live in Madison. Indiana. Our home and barn are located on the banks of the Indian-Kentuck Creek and the Ohio River. In researching the reel we have dated our home to the early 1830's. From that point the court house records get little harder to follow. Our house by todays standards would be considered median size, however in the 1830's, from our research, it would have been considered large and possibly owned by a more affluent family. We inherited the homestead from my husbands family over 25 years ago along with the barn and all of its contents. About 18months ago, we decided to start going through several old wooden boxes, including some old ammunition boxes. In one of the boxes we found several antique wood working tools and this heavy, grungy looking ... morefishing reel. I grew up fishing and hunting with my dad so I loved the look and feel of this reel immediately! You could just tell there was something special about this reel. I wiped off a little bit of the dirt and then started doing my research. Let me start by saying this reel is not perfect. You will see by the pictures and the description. That there are some issues with this reel. However, I have spent about the last 18 months working with a top authority in Meek reels and Kentucky reels in order to give you as accurate of a description of this reel as I could, its history, and its possible value. The box is in great condition for cardboard over 50 years old and the reel looks in remarkable shape as well with the exception of the broken handle which can easily be glued back for display purposes. Line capacity is 290 yards of 20lb line with a gear ration of 5.1:1 and weighs only 13 ounces. It is one of the most corrosion resistant reels around.
