The Boston and Maine Railroad grew to provide rail service in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. It was an amalgamation of small branch lines, consolidated in 1841. By 1900 this company attracted both individuals and corporations interested in stock dividends. Among those were American Express Co. and the Pullman Co. who acquired large holdings at the turn of the century. In 1907, the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, a consolidated corporation in the State of Connecticut and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, purchased the American Express holdings and tried to secure control of the Boston and Maine by further purchase of stocks. This was allowed in Connecticut, but ... moreprohibited in Massachusetts. Legal battles ensued. William B. Lawrence, an attorney from Medford, MA, emerged as a leader of the minority of Boston and Maine stockholders opposed to the merger. Its sole purpose was to acquire and hold capital stock for the Boston and Maine Railroad. In 1916 the federal government ruled that the Boston and Maine stock was acquired illegally. This is a Sheraton giltwood mirror that I am selling.It is not marked but I believe it is by James Todd of Portland Maine and dates to 1830. It measures 34 3/4" high and is 16 3/4" wide. It has and overhanging cornice. Turned pillars and the cornice is decorated with balls. It has had restoration and some repainting before I got it. I rate the condition of the covers and inside pages as about 75% original, with some tiny dog-ears on a few pages and a bit of wear on the covers. This is a vintage slatted folding chair made by the Paris Mfg. Co. of Paris Maine. It is made of a hardwood and measures aprox. 34" high x 16" wide x 20" deep. The seat is about 16" wide x 12" deep. We have more than one of these available and this is representative of the condition. There is some obvious wear from use and some paint splatter but no broken slats or cross stretchers. They are available for pickup or can be delivered by Fed Ex ground for 18.80 including insurance. We will do our best to combine lots to save on shipping costs.

A great detailed early map of Kittery Village and the Navy Yard! This 8 1/4 by 11 inch map of the village and Navy Yard lists each house by owner and each building by use. As it existed in 1856. Taken from a ruined 1856 York County wall map, the map is printed on oilskin and retains a vignette of shipbuilding in Kennebunkport below it. It exhibits frayed edges and some creases and scratches, but is in overall good shape after over 150 years. A neat piece of Naval history! Buyer to pay $6.50 priority class shipping within the US.
