Up for auction is this gently used. Vintage 1960's Martin 65 single-action fly reel on an 8 ½-foot South Bend Black Beauty fly rod. The reel is Made in USA(Mohawk. NY) in very good condition. No signs of rust or corrosion anywhere. Just needs a little cleaning. I do see a couple of very light scratches on the black side of the reel but hardly noticeable. The fly rod is also in very good condition. I don't see a mark on it. Eyes are pristine. It's a“South Bend Black Beauty. 3685, medium action, graphite composite, 6/7 line weight. It does have a small yellow fly on the end of the line which I haven't bothered to remove. The Martin single-action fly reel is precision manufactured in the U.S.A. to give you years of trouble-free service. Frames are made of reinforced aluminum with extra strength. Machined hubs. Here is a beautiful example of Ernest Holzman craftsmanship in this little reel. Please don't confuse this piece with Perez. It is marked in several places with pat. dates and E.Holzman Bklny. Having said that.this piece is rather small with 2 3/4" side plates, and purchased from Lang's in 1999 or 2000. There were two Holzmans purchased that auction and the other had jeweled end caps. This reel belonged to my Uncle. It probably was purchased in the 1940's. Stored in the 1960's and not used since. It had old fashioned line on it. Not modern monofilament. That may give you a good idea of its age. Everything seems to work properly. Smoothly, and quietly. It has not been cleaned and oiled in decades. But.
