RARE Vintage Large DAM Quick Super Reversible Open Face Reel - West Germany -
Here is a large Dam Quick Super fishing reel made in West Germany. I believe this can be used for fresh or salt water fishing. The reel is quite large at 7" from front to back. Not including the handle. Across the front it measures 4 1/4" at its widest point. The reel shows a little wear, part of the rubber band on the inside is missing. It seems to work fine with no problems that I can see. It has an adjustable lever by the handle which allows it to run in either direction, the lever also has a middle setting which allows it to turn either way without any clicking noise. This is the only box I have seen of this kind, made to fit the tail piece of the reel in the bottom, and a rail for the foot to fit in on the inside wall of the box, with shoulder strap! This reel was manufactored in 1953 by"La Compagnie des Conduites D'eau" C.F.C.E. of Paris, OR, in"The French Water Pipes Company" Being a plumber and a fisherman, I had to have one! The pictures are the very best descriptors of this great old reel. The first A.B. U rfabriken fly reels were initially called Records and then later named as ABU reels after 1966. Like all the other A.B. Ufabriken reels. Most originated from the Record name then progressed to the ABU name with further identifying subtitles. Some were badge engineered from other manufacturers but not in this case. All original design and engineering. With the fly reels, there were 3 types of Record produced(Standard, Precision and Double) before the Delta series appeared in 1966 to 1979 and then finally the Diplomat series from 1977 to 1988. For sale at a fixed price is this fairly hard to find early 1940s vintage Automatic Fly Fishing Reel. It is the South Bend Bait Company Model 1125 Oren-O-Matic. It is the USA made in Ohio. Paticularly difficult to find is the original marked leather reel bag that you see in the photo. The reel is loaded with the old brown fly line that I think is silk. This one is used but in good condition for one of these with one exception.if you hold the reel to look at it from the side you can see that the bottom plate is slightly bent on one side. It does not interfere with the operation and it is not very noticeable.I only caught when looking at it just now. The reel works smoothly with a nice strong spring. Vintage unknown. Unmarked fly fishing reel. The frame appears to be aluminum, and one of the plates could be brass, the other plate looks and feels like bakelite. Not sure though. No markings as to brand or place of manufacture. Reel shows overall wear, particularly to the rims. There are some corrosion patches also, and the handle knob looks like it's undergone some shrinkage and does not turn easily on the post. Reel still has old line on it. The reel is free of corrosion and shows only minor abrasions to the inner side rings. The plastic side plates are in good shape but have a small chips on the left and right plates. There is also the letter H scratched into the side plates but this could be removed with a little work. The reel does include the rod clamp.
