Up for grabs is an antique Edward Vom Hofe fishing reel. Model#621. Measures 2.75" x 3.5" Has a great patina. Unique look with L.L.D. and the number 3 engraved on it. I did not see any others like that so I am assuming that was done by the original owner not the factory. Has a patent date of July 14. 1896. Julius vom Hofe Vintage Saltwater Reel with Custom Made Surf Casting Rod c.1920
JULIUS VOM HOFE Antique Reel stamped October 8. 1889 Patent November 17th. 1885 with custom made surfcasting rod- sectioned hardwood and metal from the estate of a family's Summer home circa 1920 in Boothbay Harbor. Maine each interlocking section approx. 35" long Still has old line intact on reel The Julius vom Hofe Company was established in 1857. That was 10 years before his brother Edward established his business. He received several patents and became one of the most prolific reel makers. The first Julius vom Hofe patent was on November 26. 1867. It was for the bridge over the drive gear inside the reel. His next patent was for the reel end plates being made of hard rubber with metal protective bands. This patent was granted on November 17, 1885. The other common patent date seen on his reels is October 8, 1889. This was for ... morea rear spool bearing steel pivot and washer. Julius was one of the most prolific reel designers with 9 patents granted to him. One of his most important patents was granted on March 21, 1911 for the B-Ocean star drag. His last patent was granted on May 20, 1924 for a reduced cost reel. His models range from the highest quality solid nickel silver(German silver) reels to less expensive nickel plated brass and hard rubber reels. All of his reels are sought by collectors. His earliest pre-patent date reels were the ball handle style and had a distinctive clover leaf logo stamped in the reel's head plate. Julius vom Hofe made reels for a number of Sporting Goods dealers and marked them with his name and that of the company. This included companies like Thos. J. Conroy in NY. Abbey& Imbrie in NY and von Lengerke& Detmold in NY.

Edward Vom Hofe 800 Matecombe - serial # B30 - 1935
An Edward Vom Hofe 800 Matecombe that measures just 2 3/4" in diameter. The 800 Matecombe was made by Vom Hofe from 1934 until 1942 when it sold for $68.75- that translates to over $900 today! This serial number of B30 indicates a manufacture date of 1935. The reel is just below excellent with some scratches and general wear. The original owners initials WKW are inscribed on the head plate. Left throw off handle controls the click which seems to be working well. As does the right switch which controls the free spool. Julius Vom Hofe casting reel. Patent date Nov 17. 1885. This is a late nineteenth century Vom Hofe reel. It is missing one nut on the side plate opposite the handle. It's been on a shelf in my man cave for 10 or 15 years and the time has come to let someone else enjoy it. I have not cleaned or oiled it since I own it. As far as I know, the patina is all original. It works fine, including the clicker.

Truly unique. I spoke with expert on Vom Hofe reels. He advised when this reel was being made in 1896. Edward Vom Hofe 9/0 Model 621 offshore fishing Reel with leather case
This New York reel was made around 1929. Original tarnished german silver that will polish like chrome if you want. Appears that previous owner removed initials from top of thick right plate. 1/8 inch chip in right plate corner. No cracks detected. Seems to operate well with smooth spinning handle and spool. Leather case made in Austria for Abercrombie& Fitch Co. Case has E.R.B initials stamped in the leather(Edgar Rice Burroughs? Case has broken hinge and loop. Shipped within 24 hours. wow! Here is a nice pair of Edward Vom Hofe 6/0 big game reel. Serial#s E118 and E199. Also stamped 6-0 and 521 on the foot of both reels.reels works perfect and are very nice.the coolest thing is that both reels were inscribed in 1918 for presentation to J.L. Loose of Kansas City Mo. On June 1st of 1918. Mr Loose was a prominent business man in Mo. And New York owner of one of the largest baking co.s in the U.S. Quite a famous man. There is a park in Kansas City named for him. I have had these as a pair in my personal collection and feel they should stay together. A great addition to any collection. If you want to polish this reel it will shine like a new peace of jewelry, complete and in excellent condition with all functions operating as intended. Reel has nice black side plates. Early style handle grasp, free spool, adjustable star drag, harness lugs, strong click with on/off, spool brake and foot is full and unaltered. All screw heads are in excellent condition, no sign that it has ever been on a rod. No chips or cracks or damage on plates. This is a Great one for any collection!

Edward Vom Hofe 6'10" Bamboo Deep Sea Fishing Rod Tip & Cradle Rod Butt
If you like to restore old classic fishing rods then this could be a fun project for you. A 6'10" bamboo deep sea fishing boat rod made by Edward vom Hofe& Co. NY. The rod tip and cradle rod butt are stuck together and everything needs to be restored. The bamboo is in good condition but it's missing a set of guides on one side and the rest of the guides are taped on. The rattan is unraveling but can be fixed. All the brass is coated with patina and should polish up nicely. It's quite a solid rod just needs a lot of TLC. The rod is marked with the vom Hofe name on the bottom of the rod tip and tha bottom of the butt. Check out all the pictures and email if you need more or have questions.
