I took it apart and there is nothing broken. Internally it is in need of cleaning and lubrication. The nickel has worn away in spots. One of the post screws is missing but post remains secure. Last pattent date is 1899. Made by Von Lengerke& Detmold in New York. Please feel free to ask questions. My shipping fees are based on the package weight and priced according to the Post Office. For sale here is a classic Edward Vom Hofe Model 423 Restigouche salmon fly reel in excellent condition. The reel is right-hand retrieve. Size 6/0- 4 1/4" diameter. This reel carries the 1896 patent date on the sliding oil cap. German silver safety bands and pair of roller bars. The reel has a strong adjustable drag and click. This reel has the seven detent arrowhead pointer drag feature with very bright red dot indicators. The reel was made in 1925 and includes the original serial-numbered german silver reel foot with all of the proper markings- full-length and un-filed. The spool is aluminum. Slight line grooves by one pillar as shown in the photos. The reel comes with a leather case with a replacement strap. The drag on the reel remains superb to this day. You are bidding on the used Vintage Vom Hofe 3/0 Fishing Reel and Leather Case shown in the photos. The Fishing Reel has the hard rubber sides and very minor visible corrosion. It appears to have been well taken care of. The reel operates smoothly and it appears the have all of it's original parts(I am not a expert on fishing reels. So please let me know if I miss something) The spool still has brass colored wire line, could be brass or plated steel. The hard rubber or phenolic sides have no markings except, Pat. Applied For" on the side opposite the handle. The metal components look to be in gook condition, some dings and signs of use. The reel has two side plates that identify the reel. The plate on the crank side reads: EDW Vom Hofe MAKER, Fulton St. N.Y. Pat. Nov. 26, 87" The plate on the other side reads; EDW Vom Hofe, ... moreN.Y. Pat. Jan. 23, 83" and slides open to reveal the spool end- probably for oiling. The part that connects to the fishing rod is stamped 3/0. The Leather Case shown is part of this auction, the reel came in it and I am keeping them together. The leather is still in good condition for it's age, some drying and cracking but still nice. All of the stitching is intact and the buckle and strap are still good. There is another strap on the back, probably to hang on your belt. The top has a name plate with no marking, but above that is writing that reads; J. G. Johnson" or something like that pretty sure about the Johnson but not clear about the rest. It measures 6 feet in total length when assembled and offers three sections each 40.5" long. The two interchangeable end sections have bell guides and tube ferrules scribed with bands. The handle has two hand grips both above and below the reel seat and wrapped with a blond cord. antique classic fly reel Julius Vom Hofe
I'm offering for sale my little Julius Vom Hofe fly reel. This reel is in fishing condition as the pictures will show. This is a single action reel with a slight right hand bias. Very slight in my hand. In fact I wound it for left hand and felt no issue. The face has handle rubs but the handle does NOT rub now. I'm not sure why, perhaps an old repair although there are no obvious repairs except two small repairs I made which are shown in the 8th and 9th pictures. The reel is nice and sound, everything is tight there are no loose bits and the click is nice and tight. The handle is not loose and the knob is in great original shape. In the last picture the initials NY are visible at the 3 o'clock position. Above that is the name J Vom Hofe. You'll need a magnifier to see it but it is there. The foot is unmolested and marked 3 ... more1/2. The reel is 2.31 inches across, 1.35 wide with an inside withe just under an inch(997) The foot is 2.43 inches. What else can I say? Vintage & Rare Edward Vom Hofe 501 6-0 Reel & Leather Case
Up for auction is a very rare Edward Vom Hofe model 501 6-0 Reel with Leather Case. The reel and case are in found condition and appear to have been stored in a clean dry location over the years. The leather case is in good condition for its age and front strap and buckle still in good working condition. The back strap has worn through at the top of the case and thete is a 1 inch tear on the seam where the top connects on the back side. There is a metal tab on top of the leather case but I am not able to make out what it says on it if anything at all. The reel appears to be in good condition and everything appears to be in nice working order but could use a good cleaning. The marking tag on the side of the reel says EDWARD VOM HOFE MAKER N.Y. PAT.MAY 20. 02(on the hadldle side)and on the other side it says EDWARD VOM HOFE MAKER N.Y. PAT. ... moreJULY 14, 96. The stamped model number on the back says 501 6-0 with a serial number of C222. The leather piece attached to the real is in good shape as well. On the nonhandle side of the reel there appears to be some minor scuff lines. I have seen these marks before on these types of reels but not sure what they are from possibly some type of brace or something that holds the reel in place maybe? The aluminum spool does have some very small/minor pitting but nothing significant(see pics) and does not appear to affect the function on the reel. The sides and rest of the reel show no signs of any visible chips or cracks, nor has it been cleaned or polished since I have owned it. What you see is what you get and if you would like more pictures please let me know. If you are familiar with the Eward Vom Hofe reels you will know the 6-0 series are the more difficult to aquire. Classic Edward Vom Hofe 800 Series 2/0 Reel NR
You are bidding on a classic Edward Vom Hofe reel that measures 2 7/8" in diameter by 2 1/2" in width. The reel is marked on both endcaps: Edw. Von Hofe Maker. Fulton Street, NY. It is also marked on the bottom of the foot: 800, with an impressed number 2 and a serial number of X483. Mechanically, the reel is a solid 10, cranks very smoothly with a good strong click. Here is an unmarked large salmon fly reel that is identified as a Julius Vom Hofe by the 1/8" hole in the bottom of the foot. The hard rubber plates have been polished and no makers marks are visible. Stamped with# 4 1/4 on the bottom of the unaltered foot indicating the width of the side plates. Pillars are 1 3/4" Weighs 19.7 oz. Shows some plating wear and brassing on the rims- please enlarge the photos. This is a constant check reel with an adjustable drag on the tail plate. Haven't had the reel open but I was told there is a leather pad that presses against the spool. Note the recessed head plate and the nicely knurled tail plate bearing cap and drag button.
