Herter's No. 9 Fly Tying Vise Manufactured by Thompson This was my first fly tying vise when I was a young man. Fantastic shape for its age. Dates back to the late 1960's and early 70's. I have several other vises now but have kept this one. You likely won't find one of these in this kind of condition. I believe that this may be a Thompson"A" vise built for Herter's. The name"Thompson" is on the cam lock lever. Everything functions perfectly. It is still a very useful vise for fly tying, jewelry making, or other tasks requiring the firm hold of small objects. It is the redesigned model by HMH that has 2 set screws on the head to adjust the head angle. Has a"micro jaw" in place(this alone sells for $34.00) Not sure if the desk clamp piece is original. It has no markings on it at all. Vise is in very good condition. The head of the vise is excellent. The piece that attaches to the head to the standing rod shows some very slight wear on the finish. Vise has small chip in jaws but holds hooks firmly when inserted correctly, i tied a few size 6 wooly buggers to test and jaws hold a hook like a regal vise should. I am auctioning a fly tying workstation which is 21" wide by 12" deep. It has a heavy wood base with what looks like a formica surface. It has two arms on each side which extends from the back to the front and has 5 holes in each arm which holds tools. Thread bobbins etc. There is 8 dowels across the back to hold spools of thread or wire. There is a magnetic strip to hold hooks and a block of wood with a hole in it to hold a bottle of head cement. The vise can be mounted on either the right or left side. This set includes the following: 1 Sunrise Super AA Vise by Sunrise International 8 small spools of thread with various colors. This auction is for one very vintage Fly Tyer's free standing vise plus a vintage leather pouch with 6 lambs wool sections for holding tied flys. The pouch measures 6-1/2" X 3-1/2" X 1" thick. This will fit in a shirt pocket, condition is very good, has two snaps working well. The fly tying vise is solid steel, measures 7" tall, base measures 3" X 1-1/2" this weighs 3/4 pound. The paint used to be yellow and green, most has worn off, as you can see the fly in the grip, the vise works well. I believe this is the Pro II model. Which came out in the ... moremid 1980’s. It has the word“Thompson” stamped on the closing lever tab at the end. This also has a homemade wire lead arm that was with it which isn’t original to the vise but I am including it as it is still useful. This vise is heavy and sturdy; the base is weighted and has a cork covered bottom. Condition of the vise is used. Very good. There is some very light rust showing on the knurled areas of the vise, and some small spots on the closing tab. A few faint scratches in places. It opens and closes smoothly and there are no dents or broken areas. Small spot of tape on the bottom. Buyer to pay for choice of either USPS Priority or Parcel Post shipping.
