Handle does not spin when fish runs so your fingers and knuckles are safe. Unlike most Anti-Reverse reels these are easily convertible from right to left-hand retrieve. This Orvis Battenkill Fly Reel is circa 1969-1970 and was made by J.W. Young of England. The model is the very scarce"Flyweight" and it measures 2 3/4" in diam. with a 5/8" spool openning. Spool is polished aluminum and reel can be used either left or right hand wind. This reel looks to be unused and paint is over 99% The hub has a tiny nick the sizes of a pinhead. This is a great graphite fly rod and reel set that I bought at Orvis as a demo a few years back and to this day I have never had a chance to use it! My loss is your gain. This is an 4 weight rod which measures 8.6 feet. 2 ¾ ounces and is a mid-flex. Everything is like new including the Redington RS2 ¾ reel which have new backing, line and tippet on it. It also includes a full brand new Orvis hard case which is pictured. The rod and reel are ready to be taken out of the case and fished right now! From my information this is a vintage Hardy made(England) CFO III fly reel. It would be great to use on a small bamboo or graphite fly rod of your choice The reel is marked made in England I am not sure of the exact manufacture date. The reel is set up for LEFT HANDED RETRIEVE but can be also set up for right handed retrieve easily. The reel remains in very very good condition. There is light paint wear around the rim but very minor. The spare spool was probably used but it sure looks any use would have been very limited. Up for sale is my Orvis Battenkill fly reel. It's the first"good" reel I bought when I got into fly fishing back in the late 1980s. And its served me well. Made in England, the reel is designed for 5/6 lines, and has a very good, easily adjusted disc drag. It has some scratches and dings(see photos) but the reel is in excellent mechanical shape.
