It was made in Akron. Ohio and It comes with the original box(no instructions) and has line on it with what appears to be decent backing. There is also an additional spool(with original box) that also has line on it. The extra spool has some paint markings on it from the previous owner. We have also included Cortland 333 Fly Line Cleaner(with Flote-Cote added) that was with the reel when we obtained it. this is a somewhat unusual medalist that has"patent pending" and"patented" sta mped into the frame. T hese marks date the reel to 1938 or 1939 a time at which the patent had been granted but the plant was still using the stock that was marked patent pending due to w ar time shortages. unfortunately some uninspired being has removed a vast majority of the original finish.

I t had belonged to his uncle who fished in the catskil l region. it is a very nice reel with it's a l umin u m spool release cover. Drag knob and ratchet plate.The round line guard. Turned pillars and amber color ed hand le are the details that make the se early pfluegers so collectable. I ncluded is the box it came in. The box is in remarkable condition with no splits/ tears I will accept returns under the usual terms so you can bid with confidence stamped on the frame. In addition to the model# are the words"diamolite line guard" and"patented" I k now a l ittle bit about these reels. This one will not disappoint.

I.e. it has a great appearance with only a little(very little) light spec on the very edges of the side rims. It is equipped with a nice looking fly line as shown, but I am not a fly fisherman so I would not know the size or type of line. Pictures show well. Pfluger Medalist 1495 DA marked made in USA. No dents. Scrapes, dings, the black is in v.good condition. Screw heads are not buggered up at all. Drag works, and the internals look almost perfect. If I collected these. I would keep this one. It is well cared for, it was oiled when I got it, needs nothing but a stream and a rod and someone hanging on. We combine shipping.

Up for auction here is the rarer older Pflueger Medalist model 1492. Reel looks good and works good. This is another Oldie and small. Diameter is 2 7/8" Pillars on this reel are rounded.Colum shaped. Spring and pawl are intact(weak) This reel Sports a"Diamoute line Ring" Center plate is metal with Pflueger trade mark and made in USA. Please see pics for over all cosmetic condition. Metal drag ratchet for right hand wind only. 16 detent bottom side. 4 detents top side. Came off of an Akron Ohio Medalist manufactured before 1958. This part was replaced with plastic in 1959 and will outlast the reel. Should fit all Medalists that have a brake mechanism.

This is a very smooth 1494 Medalist with a OnePfoot reel foot. A OnePfoot drag adjusting screw and a square line guide. It also has sculptured pillars and the metal drag plate of an older reel. It is marked Patented and Made in USA. It is a very smooth and tight reel. Some paint loss which is normal for a reel of this age. Very fishable or collectable.
