Classic Sage 106M fly reel - excellent used condition - with backing
Up for bid is(1) Sage fly reel. Model 106M, in excellent used condition. I have had reel since new, acquired around 1994, and reel has been taken care of and used sparingly on the North Umpqua River. There is 30lb backing presently on reel, and probably should have 20lb backing instead. I got this reel when I was first learning to fly fish, and I probably invisioned larger fish than I actually ever caught. Reel is 3 5/8" outside diameter. This exceptionally made. Yet simple reel was made in Redditch, England for Sage by J.W. Young Company, and uses a click type drag system that can be converted to right or left handed retrieve. I fished it with WF-6F line on my Sage rod, but upgraded to newer reel after learning to fly fish. I sometimes question why I ever quit using this reel because some of the more expensive reels sold today are more ... moretrouble and less efficient than this simple reel. This is an auction of one. A single reel, Sage Manufactured 509 single action, rim control, fly reel, dual pawl spring tensioned drag system. This was one of the first reels Sage ever offered in this rim control format. They are made in England, or were. The reel is no longer made that I know of. These were modeled after the tried and true Hardy rim control fly reels, Slightly heavier built and a little more bomb proof than say the old System Reels or Marquies Series reels put out by Hardy, but the intention was to complete in this sector, and they did. The older Sage 506 Fly Reel& Spare Spool being auctioned here are in fair used-condition ... moregiven their obvious age. Well-cared for by its previous owner but no doubt intensively fished, this 6/7wt set subsequently displays the signs of cosmetic wear and tear one would naturally expect in a piece that's been avidly employed. As evidenced in the photos. There are some moderate scratches, scrapes and"rock rash" to be aware of around the reel's rimmed edges and periphery. While the engraved reel face remains largely free from any major dents, dings or bruising, do please note that the center black spindle cap is missing. As is often the case with these popular vintage reels. Lost while fishing many seasons ago, there is some light rust that has subsequently started forming around the hex-nut lug(please see pics) Though no longer bright and shiny like it once was new. The machined aluminum reel foot remains straight and tight, and despite some modest scratching, no excessive wear or tear was noted. A close inspection of the reel's interior reveals all pieces of the adjustable spring-and-pawl drag system still intact. With no noteworthy wear witnessed to the checks, sprocket or spindle. Sage TXL 2710-3 7' 10" 2 wt Fly Rod with Ross Evolution #0 Copper Reel
Sage TXL 2wt 7" 10" 3 piece rod with rod sock and factory tube. I am also including a weight matched Ross Evolution#0 Reel. I have Warranty cards for both the rod and reel. I also have the neoprene factory sock for the reel as well as the original box. Very clean and well taken care of set-up that has not seen much use. I removed the fly line at the end of last season so the reel has no line. The reel is copper and matches handsomely with the rod. I hate to see it go. Good luck bidding.
