This is a great skagit line. I used it for two seasons and it is in great shape. This would be a good line for an 8 weight spey rod. I did use it on my 8 weight and my 7 weight. But found it a bit too heavy for my 7 weight. This is a Large. Heavy Porcelain Stein or Mug commemorating a Third Place Win in the"SVC Fall Series, 1969. It is hand painted by Bob Williams in Mount Vernon, WA and I believe the SVC refers to Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, WA. It stands 5" tall and measures 3-1/8" across the top. The base measures 3-3/4" in diameter. On one side is a Gold Sail Boat with the letters"CL" superimposed on one sail and"3rd" painted in red. On the other side. In red are the words, SVC Fall Series 1969. Impressed near the handle is 8.5 l. There are no chips. Cracks, scratches, crazing or discolorations. The red color is bright and unfaded and the gold is intact. The stamped information on the bottom indicates this piece was hand painted by Artist Bob Williams in Mount Vernon. WA. Huge Skagit River Gathering Basket, Washington State, circ.1880-1910
For your bidding pleasure- A rare Giant Skagit River gathering basket from the northwest region of Washington State. This huge example was woven from coiled cedar root and imbricated with white beargrass. Alder dyed"yellow" beargrass, black horse tail and brown cedar bark. This remarkable polychrome basket measures 15 and 3/4 inches high with a 17x 14 inch rectangular opening finished with a fine complex braid along the rim.The capacity is huge. More so given the shape which resembles a deep box form versus others of the same height which taper in form. Condition is solid, excellent condition with expected wear from use. No glue, no repairs- 100 percent original. Sidewall surfaces are smooth and flat with near perfect symmetry of the overall shape or form. A basket this size during the period typically required approx. a year to ... moregather the amount of material required. And many months to sew by an accomplished master weaver. Not many examples survived this well given over a 125 year period. Two original leather loops are also affixed to the sidewall. These loops were used for attachments for a strap or cover for use in the field while transporting, and or attachment points to secure a cover for bulk storage.This basket was made for native utility functions and perhaps collected prior to being subjected to many years of extended use which suggests the present condition. See photo`s. The design or overall pattern is often referred to as"Box& Starfish" and sometimes interpreted as simply a"box" pattern which represent an opening in a lake. River stream etc. This particular weaver created a 3 dimensional design- where one`s eye focuses upon the primary"box" patterns and then shifts to an arrangment of stack"crosses" to create the illusion. Finally, each pattern is repeated with concentric designs or one within another to create depth.
