It works great for both winter and summer run fish. I like the fast action. This rod can really launch bugs out there. Allen Alpha II size 4 fly reel. I have around 250 yds of orange backing on here. Also have RIO.035 blue running line. Even with the shooting heads. The reel has room left. The drag is awesome too. It has a wide range and can stop any fish you can think of. This is a Sage VT2 8139-4(8 wt. 13' 9" 4 piece) Spey Rod in pristine condition. I purchased this rod from the Leland upgrade program and have not used it once(check out my brand new reel, spare spool and spooled lines for this rod also for sale) If you know about the Leland upgrade program you know that the products sold are like new, at least that has been my experience. If this rod was used before I purchased it I can't tell where it was. The reel seat doesn't look like it had a reel on it. I suspect it was a store display. The upper and lower cork grips do display some moderate staining from previous handling, and while both are overall void of any major gouges or excessive missing fill, there is a chip in the foregrip's leading edge should be noted(see pic 5! This is a used vintage spey rod with original rod sock which has the original owners name J.L. SALTONSTALL. There is some wear to the rod sock. This rod is inventory from a fly shop that closed a few years ago. I do not know much about this rod. It could have been made in Kelso Scotland. When assembled the three piece rod is approximately 15 feet 6 inches long. There is an extra tip section and an extra mid section. This rod is rare. Leonard spey(2 handed) fly rod that is in great fishable condition without any need for work. This rod has been fished and cared for over the years. The only bad thing is that it has a profession repair on the last eye before the tip top. All I can see is a 3/4 inch length of clear wraps that is barely even noticeable. No bag or Tube. I will package properly in hard tube to insure it arrives in this exact condition. I do not know exactly what year this was made but I think it may be he an earlier model. 10 foot 6 inches total length. 3 piece, 1 tip. Each section 42 3/4 inches. All the Nickel Silver hardware looks to be in almost like new condition Ferrules are perfect. Pop taking them out.
