Pretty nice old Martin 49A here. Box has some issues from silverfish and a dent as shown. Reel has slight scratches(fingernail probably) from removing the sticker. Works great and still looks good. Paperwork is warranty and instructions along with a hunk of cardboard is included. Red Automatic Mohawk fly fishing reel made in the U.S.A. The housing on the wind-up side is red enamel. The rest of the reel is made of aluminium. This is a vintage piece in working order. There are places where the red has worn and there is wear and scratches on the aluminium portions. This was purchased from a local estate and we have not cleaned or done anything to the reel. It does have fly line on it. All parts do work and it clicks properly when you pull the line out and the automatic winder does wind the line in. I have noticed that the spring will release after a five or six turns not allowing you to wind it as tight as it should be. This probably needs some adjustment ... moreor attention. This was in an Estate Lot and I don't know how to test it, But it seems to turn and is thought to be in working condition. It has old line on it, which may need to be replaced. Research tells me that Martin is one of the oldest reel makers since 1884. And the"Automatic" Reel was invented by George Cook from Louisville, Ky in 1899. In seriously sweet condition. This original Martin brand fly fishing reel apparently never met a fish in its existence, as it is shiny and appears completely unused. The BOX looks like it was stored somewhere inept, as it has a mediocre share of wear, AND has apparently the original price written on it, which was at the time $23.35. As stated, the reel survived nicely. It has ONE SCRATCH as shown in the last photo, photos are VERY closeup and the scratch isn't so noticeable in person. Otherwise, it is black, shiny and super, SUPER NICE! Has original instructions.
