The rule of thumb is use smaller lures to catch smaller fish and larger lures to catch larger fish. Keep in mind plain spinners present a smaller profile than dressed spinners. So they will appear smaller to the fish. This makes them perfect for panfish and small stream trout. Fishing with dressed spinners can produce larger fish, but, when stream trout fishing, you will probably catch more fish using plain spinners. Plain Treble and Single Hook Mepps plain treble or single hook Aglias in size#00 or#0 are perfect for panfish(bluegills or sunfish) and small stream trout. They are very light. However, and require a nimble rod, equipped with a light action reel spooled with light line; nothing heavier than six-pound-test. Two-pound-test to four-pound-test is better. Aglias in size#1 and#2 are perfect for larger stream trout and large bluegills, sunfish and crappies. Size#2 Aglias are also excellent for smallmouth bass and walleye. These sizes are ideal for teaching youngsters the basics of spinner fishing, as they are heavy enough to cast well with light tackle, yet they are small enough to catch a wide variety of fish. Size#4 and# 5 Aglias are ideal for large rainbow trout and steelhead. As well as coho(silver) and chinook(king) salmon. Two extra heavy duty(051" wire) large Musky Spinnerbaits. The third spinnerbait is not as heavy but will hold up to muskie and giant pike. All three have the twisted(closed) eye where you attach to. This auction is for a large group of lures some barely used some well used but still in very good shape and one that the rear hook was ripped out(the 2nd picture bottom middle purplish lure) On the first picture on the left side you see 4 rattle traps the top 3 are Rapala the are in excellent shape. Only used a couple times each. the bottom one is a Berkley rattle trap. I've used it alot and it still looks great. Very well made.On the right side you see a 4 Rapala lures the top 3 are in excellent condition.Probable only been in the water 5 time each at the most the bottom jointed i've had for ever hooks are a little rusty but still a nice lure. on the second picture on the top row from left to right thefirst 3 are EPPINGER daredevle and a seadevle which is heavy. Then there are 2 MEPPS cyclops spoons one has a bent hook that could ... morebe straightend. On the second row down on the left the spoon with yellow green is some odd ball walmart spoon that smaller spoon next to it is an old ACME CLEO WIGGLE Then another EPPINGER spoon maybe a 1 oz. Not sure what the lure is next to it, then another lure i dont remember the name of.3rd row that white lure is a STORM lure bought last year these are about the same quality as a rapala This lure wasnt used much but needs a new front hook. I removed it to use on another lure. then a small surface torpedo and a jitterbug then a gold WILLIAMS spoon i think. 3 vintage Mepps Doubl Cross spinners. Hard to find discontinued lures with adjustable blades to vary the blade rotation/vibration. Which affects its depth also. These are all size DC-3 and are approximately 3-1/4" overall length. Top to bottom picture#1- Yellow banded hook with gold blade, Red hackle dressed hook with silver and gold blade, Chartreuse banded hook with silver blade. All 3 are in great shape and wear the original Double Cross decals on their blades. Great addition to a Mepps collection! The red dressed hackle spinner is a rare lure to find! I bought this quite a long time back, when I was determined to be the BIG TIME Mepps collector of the west coast. Well, my interests spread, and now I have too many, of too many reels. I always felt, if you are a collector of a manufacturer, you collected everything they made. But you could die wanting, if you included lures with Mepps! But I did get as many reels as I could, loving the spinning reels first! This fly reel was a rare find from a collector in Sweden, mainly because I didn't even know Mepps made anything but the spinning reels. It has been a topic in my group, and a clean and interesting piece in my collection. This auction is for an Old Mepps Aglia Long 3 Spinner that is still in the original unopened package. From the looks of the package. I would think this one dates back to the 60’s, but I am not an expert. Also included in this auction is one old Pflueger Tandem Spinner that says Pflueger on one blade with the bulldog trademark stamped on the blade as well. There is a little tiny rust spec on the blades, but not much. It is missing the trailing feather dressed hook at the rear of the lure. What you see and what I have described is what you get. RARE Mepps France Travel Fishing ROD Super Meca Reel + Canvas/Leather Case Vtg
This auction is for a vintage Mepps travel rod and reel that belonged to a family who used to live in France. This is a vintage set. Probably from the late 60's or early 70's I would guess. I think this must be pretty rare. As I have never seen a Mepps-branded rod before. It appears that it all went together as found. There is a leather and canvas carry case, the telescoping rod, the reel, an original instruction sheet(all in French) and an extra spool. The orange Super Meca reel is in fantastic condition.I only lightly wiped it down. It operates smoothly and effortlessly. It has a thumb screw to allow it to swivel to the side for more streamlined storage in the bag. The inside is clean as a whistle too.see close up. There are only a couple of minor rub marks on the finish. The telescoping rod needs a little help-all of the guides ... moreare loose and I think it got banged around in storage all of these years. It is complete. And I think it is worth having restored since I cannot find anything anywhere on Mepps rods. Coming from France, maybe it was some kind of employee gift or something. The rest of the rod is very nice.all of the pieces are nice. As is the cork grip. The canvas travel case is a bit dirty, but has a leather bottom, leather trim, leather handle and leather straps. It is solid and usable or would make a great display. There is a two-sided pocket on it. All in all, a great vintage piece with a fantastic vintage reel made by one of the all time lure companies.
