It looks like a trout to me but I may be wrong. Check out the pics. This deke is nicely painted. But rather dark. Could that be from aging? Carved wood body with metal fins& line attachment thingy. The mouth and gills details are carved into the wood, and the eyes are round-headed furniture tacks. Overall, a very nice deke. It could be put to good use next winter on the ice, or it could be a"shelf queen" in your collection. He was a collector of all sorts of fishing tackle. Here's an original used Oscar Peterson Perch fishing decoy. That measures approximately 7 inches in length. it has not been repainted or messed with, but does shows evidence that it was use several times by the typical missing paint, and bumps and bruises that it has suffered from fish strikes. VINTAGE ICE FISHING DECOY FOLK ART OSCAR PETERSON ??
VINTAGE ICE FISHING DECOY with glass eyes measuring 5 1/2 x 1 1/4 x 1/2 inches. The material is probably antler. It does have a flat belly. Mouth and curved body reminiscent of the work of Oscar Peterson but I do not remember him working with antler. A crack in the tail has been repaired. There is now a whole school of Oscar disciples and why not emulate the best. Inuit examples in antler or bone do not resemble this form. A curious addition to your Decoy Collection from Northern Michigan.

Oscar William Peterson was born in Grayling, Michigan on November 14, 1887. When Oscar was 8 years old his family moved to nearby Cadillac, Michigan, and would spend the rest of his life in the Cadillac area. Oscar Peterson was a life-long bachelor and passed away on October 7, 1951. Peterson's parents were Swedish immigrants and his father worked in the logging business, which at the time had grown into a major industry in northern Michigan. Over the course of his lifetime, Oscar worked at a variety of common labor jobs including a landscaping business that employed himself and his brother George. In addition, he was a hunting and fishing guide and sold wood carvings that were primarily fishing related items. Oscar Peterson was perhaps best known for his fish decoys that he made for spearing
