Opimika Wilderness Camp & Cottages is located on Troutbait Lake approximately 90kms north east of North Bay on hwy. #63. Turning on to McConnell Lake Road from Hwy. #63 you will enjoy the drive through the wilderness on a wide, well maintained gravel road. Following the Opimika signs will get you to the lodge in approximately 25 minutes.Your Cottage is on the lake with a full view of surrounding wilderness. All cottages have a spectacular view of the lake and as you sit on your deck in the evening you will enjoy a beautiful Opimika sunset. In the evening we all enjoy a bonfire and casual conversation, fish stories and the occasional guitar sing a long. Opimika offers everything for the avid outdoors person. You can enjoy the four seasons at Opimika. Whether you fish, ice fish, hunt, snowmobile or ATV, we can accommodate your needs. If it is a family vacation destination in the wilderness you are after, we offerboat rentals with motors, a shuttle service to the over 30 area lakes which have walleye, pike, trout and bass. If you enjoy the quiet, then how about using the kayaks or taking acanoe on a serene paddle. We also offer the use of a paddle boat for the relaxed exerciser. The kids will be amazed at the clear, clean water. They will be able to see fish bite their worm, or snorkel to the floating dock and watch the fish below them. The family pet is also welcome at Opimika, with common courtesy to the other guests, of course. A leash is required at all times as well as cleaning after your pet. No barking please. For the eco-tourist lover Opimika offers many hiking trails and endless wilderness excursions. We also have available on request, wildlife viewing stations were you may catch a glimpse of deer, moose, bear, wolf and possibly a lynx. Looking over head you may see the local bald eagle as he comes in for his morning fish, and in the evening you will enjoy the call of the resident loons.

My name is Mike Shepherd. I have 30 years experience in hunting and hopefully 30 more (God willing and the creek don't rise!!). I have always enjoyed the challenge of baiting, tracking and hunting larger game, and have found the area around Opimika to be an out doorman's dream. For a new hunting experience, why not give us a try and I am sure you will turnOpimika into your annual hunting destination.
Moose & Deer:
We are in wildlife management area 41. The abundance of selective logging cuts, marshlands and old growth timber, allow us to have an extended moose season with the first 2 weeks designated for bow hunters only.
We also offer grouse and small game hunting.
Due to the extensive new growth, deer have adequate shelter and browse, which steadily increases our deer population.
Bear:
Opimika wilderness Camp and Cottages bear management area is over 500 sq km, allowing for both resident and non-resident hunters. Our bear hunting season allows for many a happy hunter. The two month season tells you of the abundance of the bear in our area. We provide our hunters with baited areas and access to tree stands and ground blinds, giving you the best possible options for the hunt. Rifle or bow, your preference.

Bring your rod, or if you forgot, then we can supply one for a minimal charge per day. Opimika is surrounded by over 30 lakes. Being centrally located, you have access to pike, walleye, ... morebass and trout. No boat, no problem. Rent a boat and motor for a day or for your entire stay. We will shuttle you, if need be, boat, motor and all to the lake of your choice and pick you and your catch of the day up at a pre-arranged time. Don't forget your fishing licenses.

OUR ACCOMMODATIONS
Over our years here at Opimika Wilderness Cottages, all the cottages, plus our house had the electricity supplied by a generator system. This is a non-renewable ... moreenergy source which requires gasoline and oil to operate. With the change to solar, we have reduced our carbon footprint by eliminating the need for gasoline. Now our clients can enjoy 24hr electricity supplied by the solar system and hear the sounds of nature without the constant noise from the generator. We are proud and happy to have made this environmentally friendly switch to renewable energy, and we hope our client, old and new will enjoy the change as much as we do.

The outpost cottage is located on Emerald Lake and as the name suggests the water is a beautiful, clear emerald green. You have the privacy and the luxury of being the only cottage ... moreon the lake. Sit on the deck and enjoy the sun or lay on the sandy beach. The outpost is a fully equipped cottage which is also solar powered with a back up generator. A full kitchen with all the appliances, dishes and utensils. A clean 3 piece bathroom and the outpost can sleep up to 12 people. If water-skiing is your pleasure, bring your boat, you are the only people on the lake. If fishing is your pleasure the lake is your playground. If you do not have a boat or motor we can also supply them at a daily rate.
