It is about 9" tall by just under 6" wide by about 1/2" thick on the stem and gradually gets thinner as you near the points. It weighs in at just under a pound at around 15 ounces. Antique Brass Fishing Harpoon Tips w/Rope Hand Knot Nautical Display Case
this is an old pair of tuna fishing harpoon tips made of brass i believe they go on the tips of the harpoon then stay lodged in the fish. These were hand knotted many years back and have a nice original patina on both the handmade brass and the knotting,wrapping, possibly waxed treated a well. the dispaly case is a nice wood and glass hinged case that used to belong to coins. I basically cut some of the foam out of it to fit the harpoons and ropes in there, they are not attached at all and cann be removed for handling. the blue sections of foam in the photos shown here have since been blotted back to black so they are unnoticable. this item could also be hung on the wall. I added a nice small loop to keep it closed. the case is 10x9x2 inches the harpoons are 5 inches and about 4.7 inches or so

12 3/4" Long A wonderful example of an antique spear or harpoon dating from the first quarter of the 19th century. Circa 1830-50. All blacksmith made. Hand forged out of high quality metal. There is some minor pitting as shown. Overall though this is a very good+, near excellent example. This piece was made of iron forged by a blacksmith it has 5 prongs or tangs; one on the outside has been broken and replace during the period. Length is 22.5 inches. 3.5 inches wide, tangs are 3.5 inches long and ¼ inch thick. The bar section is 19 inches long, width is ¾ inch to 3/8 inch at the top. There is a one inch disc 4 inches from the top. The total weight is 1 pound 3 ounces. Not sure how it was used. On a pole, from a gun or cannon. Found in a large Lake Champlain collection. 15 1/2" Long All hand forged. Blacksmith made, this spear showcases the talents of an early American blacksmith. A great find. This original forged iron fishing or whaling harpoon that likely dates from the first quarter of the 19 th century. Circa 1825-1840. As you can see it is a fixed head example in a“single flue” pattern that was designed with the intention of spearing a whale to hinder its abilities while a skiff would assist in furthering harpooning with other devices. This flue would have originally been mounted on a long wooden pole. There is wonderful signs of wrought iron craftsmanship throughout. There is some pitting to the piece from age. Here we have a Barbed Spearhead or Harpoon. Not sure of exact origin or use. But I think it was used for spearing or harpooning fish. Overall length is 12" and 3/4" wide. Vintage Arctic Inuit/Eskimo Copper Blade, Bone Handle & Sinew Fishing Harpoon
Unusual and rare artifact. Measures about 12.75" long. Shaft and blade is copper with a bone handle and bone tip that holds the blade. There is sinew attached to the tip that detaches when lodged in a fish and the sinew line is used to reel in. Please see photos for best description of this item. My parents used to fish at Plummer's Great Bear Lake Lodge in the 1970s and 1980s. The fishing guides there also made and sold handicrafts to the tourists. This came from one of their trips. S& P Harpoons I hand make museum quality harpoons. These are real harpoons, hand made new. But aged to look old. Our harpoons are typical representations of the"irons" in the whaling museums at New Bedford, Nantucket and others. This harpoon is a Single-flue type. It first appeared in the whale fishery circa 1825. It was thought to hold better in the whale than the two flue type. However whale ship records show that about an equal amount of both types were taken aboard. The iron measures 37 inches long from the tip of the head to the end of the socket. It is hand formed. And aged thru controlled corrosion to an antique fire black patina. The socket is served with genuine Stockholm tarred marline and secured with a whalers turkshead knot to prevent chafing of the whale line. It is stamped WB to denote the whale boat station. ... moreWaist Boat, and S&P, the makers mark. The pole is hand hewed with a draw knife. It is old. The whale line is genuine hemp as the whalers originaly used. Overall it measures 7 foot 5 1/2 inches when mounted. It is lightly hand rubbed with boiled linseed oil to preserve it. Rustic display hangers are provided. This is a classic harpoon! This whalecraft makes an excellent display of the whaling era. It is suitable for home. Office, museum, and anywhere a nautical theme is desired. The price is wholesale and the harpoon should sell for twice this amount retail. These are the best found anywhere. It measures 72" long overall. The wood shaft is 44" from end to where it meets the gig head. The gig itself measures 27 3/4" long by itself, has 4 barbed tip tines that measure right at 6 1/2" long on the 2 outer tines, 5 1/2" long on the 2 inner, and it measures 6" wide. Antique Maritime Whaling Wrought Iron Toggle Iron Harpoon Fishing Spear 19th C
33 3/4" Long A great find in upstate NY from a private collection. This original forged iron whaling harpoon dates to the later part of the of the 19 th century c.1848 according to a reference I found in"Hooks Rings& Things. by Frank T. Barnes. This form is mentioned as being 1848 American. It is said that the small hole in the toggle would have had a piece of wood inserted so when the harpoon entered the whale it would break and allow the toggle to pivot and open in such a way to not allow it to easily be removed. The other end of the iron would have a wood pole with ropes attached. There is wonderful signs of wrought iron craftsmanship throughout. Please click on the images for enlarged details.
