Here's a neat piece of fishing Americana from the 1950's that would make a great addition to any sports room. Manufactured by the Cornwall Wood products company of Maine. This five rod holder captures the theme of those old-school fishing lodges perfectly. Overall width: 11-3/4" Overall height: 4-3/4" Depth(from back to front of rod shelf) 2" Weight: 3/4 pound. Given its age. This one has a few nicks and dings but nothing major. It did somehow end up with a hole in the fisherman's head which I tried to show this in the last picture. With a little effort, this could be easily fixed. There are no splits anywhere in the wood and the shelf to the base attachment is still nice and tight. My Grandpas Dad got this for his Birthday in 1905. Then was given to Grandpa in the 20s, It still has the holder and I am including a 1948 Reel to go with it. It is a 4 piece rod, has 2 tops with tips, 3 parts together measure 9' in length it is a fly pole and Reel. It is Marked UTK on reel base, see story below. It is in pretty good shape does shows wear from use and age. still works great. Reel is a 1948 Perrine MFG Co. Free Stripping Reel with patent numbers and maker info. has weighted floating string. In good condition. The pole has the UTK stamp of 1905 see story below. Happy bidding. This is a nice piece of fishing history. The holder is hand carved wood covered by cloth there are a couple tears in cloth.Horrocks-Ibbotson was one of America's largest production rod companies for many years, competing head to head with Montague ... moreand South Bend. This company that came to be known as the World's Largest Manufacturer of Fishing Tackle traces its history to 1812 but did not become involved with fishing tackle until 1863 when an English immigrant named James Horrocks was hired as a clerk. In 1894, Edward Ibbotson was hired as an errand boy. Gradually the company acquired existing tackle companies. In late 1905 the company built a new factory in Utica, New York and continued to grow until it was known throughout the world. The firm was incorporated in 1909 as the Horrocks-Ibbotson Co.
