This folk art sunfish is very unusual. It's most interesting design feature are the flared. Carved wooden gills on each side. The condition is as seen with normal paint loss and wear. The lead belly weight is shaped in the form of the belly and is attached externally rather than being weighted internally. there is an area at the front of the weight that has been filled with wood filler. This decoy has carved gill and mouth features and the eyesa re made from round tacks. If you like the odd and unusual, this one should be right up your alley. VINTAGE DON QUINCER FLASHER TROUT~ FOLK ART FISH SPEARING DECOY~ICE FISHING LURE
This great looking Minnesota trout was made by listed fish decoy carver Don Quincer. Quincer decoys are included in the reference book THE FISH DECOY. VOLUME 3 on page 108 and are fairly difficult to come by. This carver is rather elderly now and is not believed to be carving any longer. This example measures 8" long. It is signed on the underside of one fin with the maker's D over a Q mark and dated 2001. The condition is excellent, original and unfished. I have up for auction an Ernie Newman from Carlton. Mn Ice Fishing Spearing Decoy. The body is wood. The eyes are glass. The fins are metal. The head is a bright red color and the body is an off white color(almost a lite yellow) The paint is covered in clear lacquer The front fins are painted the body color. The rear fins and tail are natural metal. The very top of the decoy has a scale finish applied while the top half of each side has specks of silver flash attached. The bottom has a couple of small paint chip that can be seen in the pictures. The tail fin has a small hole drilled in the back middle for adding feathers or a hook. All these things are very typical to Ernie Newman Decoys. Ive tried to give as much detail as I can but if you have any questions please ask. VINTAGE DON QUINCER RAINBOW TROUT~ FOLK ART FISH SPEARING DECOY~ICE FISHING LURE
This great looking Rainbow Trout was made by listed fish decoy carver Don Quincer. Quincer is from Minnesota and his decoys are included in the reference book THE FISH DECOY. VOLUME 3 on page 108 and are fairly difficult to come by. This carver is currently in his 80s and is not believed to be carving any longer. This example measures 9" long and has a carved mouth and glass eyes. It is signed on the belly with the maker's D over a Q mark and dated 2005. The condition is excellent, original and unfished. Rare Early Minnesota Handmade Vintage Ice Spearing Decoys Fishing Lure Curved
This is a wonderful old honest working ice fishing/spearing decoy. This is not one of the newer reproductions that you see so much of on ebay. This great old 6 1/2" decoy was discovered and is believed to have been made in central Minnesota. I do not know the carver although I'm sure many of you will. The decoy is legitimately old and has a carved wooden curved tail with metal side fins. The paint appears to be in very good original condition and is very folky. The decoy has an inset weight on the bottom and 2 smaller applied weights in the back to make it swim right. I will be listing several other old working spearing decoys in the next week. This vintage. Colorful, hand carved and crafted BIG ice spearing decoy really makes a statement. The handmade wood body was nicely carved and painted. Exhibits a great patina. It is heavy with the large cast belly weight and hangs at a correct"heads-up" angle for proper swimming. The overall body length is a largish 6" while the big wingspan is a huge 9" the painted metal wings show paint loss, particularly on the top. 5 Vintage or Antique Spear Spearing Ice Frog Fishing Decoy U.S. Line Company MA
Here is something unusual. Five old frog or fish spearing heads. One in particular is of interest here. It has the label mark for U.S Line Company Westfield. Mass with an eagle logo, and U.S.L. Brand. I believe this is very rare, I could not find any others like it in past or current listings on this site, I did find some catalogs from this company from the early 1950's. The item is like new, five tines, and measures about 3" x 7' x 1" There is also another one that looks like it is made from brass, or copper, it measures 4" x 9 1/4' x 1 1/8" It is marked, made in ND. Then there is one that is green, heavy steel, with an open tang, it measures 5" x 10 1/4' x 1 1/8" no markings which I can see. Number four is the bigger blue spear head 4 1/4" x 9 1/2" x 1 1/4" no markings. The last ... moreone is the smaller blue spear head 4 1/2" x 8' x 1" it has the initials PL engraved on to it. Excellent Vintage Estate Found Bamboo Fly or Fresh Water Fishing Rod in fantastic condition in it's original aluminum tube with super exceedingly rare and early hand forged ice spear for spearing fish once caught This terrific vintage fishing set is quite possibly Hardy or Heddon. As there is a nice"H" embellished at the base of the cork handle, but there is nothing hand written as is typical for bamboo rods, or it has simply worn off. This wonderful old 2 piece 6'6" rod is in terrific preowned condition and is a wonderful find for both collectors and resellers too. This early hand forged ice spear is also a rare find for collectors and to find them together as a set is truly scarce. Vintage nice wooden Ice fishing Spearing Mouse Fish Decoy wood / glass eyes WOW!
This auction is for a Ice fishing Spearing Mouse Decoy. It is made of wood with glass eyes and has metal legs and two lead weight undernieth. The wood was not painted when finished. But instead had a wood stain color and a varnish finish. I do not know how old the decoy is or who made it. Makes a great gift for the fishing collector. It is in good condition, there are some areas of minor finish ware, light rust on some metal areas, overal nice decoy. It measures about 6.5 inches long by about 2 inches wide.
