I have 2 really nice rope stringers and the metal points and rings appears to be copper. They are in very nice shape and can be cleaned up to display great. There is also an old snelled hook holder that is made out of metal and has a bunch of hooks on one side. It is made to put snelled hooks on both sides. There is a 1 inch long piece of hardwood stcking out from the end. Again. It is very solid with no wood damage. Im not even quite sure how the maker did this! Im not quite sure how far the wood goes up but it can't be much. This is heavy. I don't believe this was meant to attach to a longer pole because I don't see any screw holes. This is the small size(38 3/4" This is marked W. L. Marble and has a jaw spread of 8 inches as were listed during the M.S.A. years. This is an early model having the markings on the jaw which read: W. L. MARBLE MNFR GLADSTONE MICH-PAT ALLOWED- This piece measures 38 3/4 inches in overall length and functions quite well. The metal has some light pitting and the lathe turned handle is in remarkably excellent condition. The marking on one side is legible and the other is mostly legible. Please inspect all the photos. This is definitely an antique gaff hook. My Father-in-law gave it to me over 50 years ago. He had used it for years on his fishing vessel that he ran out of Cape May. NJ. JAPANESE ANTIQUE IRON GAFF BALING HOOK VINTAGE JAPANESE TOOL HAND FORGED IRON GAFF BALING HOOK This is a late Taisho era(c.1925) vintage Japanese iron gaff or bailing hook. I am not sure what the primary function of this tool is. But I have seen similar ones in use at the famous Tokyo Tsukiji fish market. This fish market dates back to the Edo Period, over 300 years ago. This gaff is made of hand forged iron with a Japanese hinoki(cypress) handle. The bottom of the handle flares out to help maintain a firm grip. A previous owner from nearly a century ago wrote his name. Soma, on the handle(see last picture) It shows minor signs of use: slight oxidation on the iron head and a warm aged patina on the Japanese cypress handle but is overall in very fine condition. Up for auction is a vintage wood handle/metal tip boat pole/gaff. The metal end measures approximately 11 1/2" and the total length is 34" The boat hook weighs approximately 1 1/2 pounds. Aside for some minor surface rust on the metal tip. The pole is in good shape. The boat hook you see in these photos is the one that you will receive if you win this auction.
