We purchased this lovely artisan made threesome from Martha's Vineyard artist Cecilia Tappan Minnehan and featured as Cecilia's Designs. Featured is a one-inch leather belt with brass and beach bone buckle; measures 44 end to end with one hole. But plenty of room for others; sterling silver on with fossilized walrus bone stone and gold vermeil on sterling silver earrings with backs and beach-bone round stones. A stunning set and all in excellent condition. Purchase directly from artisan in MV. Write-up of artist: Cecilia Tappan Minnehan was born in Lima Peru. Her career in jewelry began at the age of 14 when she apprenticed under the renowned silversmith. Juan Yucra. While attending the State University of New York at New Paltz, she spent her Junior year studying with a Blacksmith at the University of Urbino in Italy. In 1979 she ... morereceived a B.S. in Art Education. After college. Cecilia moved to Boston and started designing a small line of hand crafted jewelry sold exclusively in the stores of the Kiracofe Brothers in Boston, Newport and Mackinac Island. In 1983. Cecilia went to Norway to apprentice with famed Scandinavian silversmith Uni David-Anderson. When she returned to Boston, Cecilia worked as a bench jeweler for a production jewelry house and launched Cecilia Designs as a full time business in 1985. At the end of that year, Cecilia moved the business to the SOHO district of New York City where she was heavily influenced by the dramatic fashion styles and the Art- Deco period. This auction is for a 1943 maritime map of Martha's Vineyard to Block Island Including Buzzards and Narragansett Bays. It is stamped that it is a special print for educational use and not to be used for navigation. It is about 45" by 36" and is folded. It was probably used in a class at the US Naval Academy. It was published by The U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey in Feb. 1943 and cost 10 cents at that time. The map is in good condition with only a slight bit of yellowing. No tears. On Sep-21-14 at 07:59:06 PDT. Seller added the following information: On the top left edge" No. 1210 Price 75 Cents" has a red line through it replaced by No. 1210-Tr Price 10 Cents. Sized men's L(see below for actual measurements) The shirt has a left chest emboidery in navy blue in the shape of Martha's Vineyard. The shirt is made of 100% cotton and weighs approximately 17.4 ounces. It is in excellent vintage condition for a 20-30+ year old sweater. No holes. Tears, rips or stains that I could find upon inspection. Sweaters like this are extremely rare and cost quite a bit of money when they were new. I don't even know if you can get newer versions of them anymore because I believe Murray's of the Vineyard closed in the last couple of years. Antique Food Chopper Kitchen Tool Vintage Metal Wood Estate Martha's Vineyard
This was purchased at an estate sale on Martha's Vineyard this year. While I was there my daughter took me to an estate sale at an old sea captains home. I found this interesting and unique piece and believe it is 18th to 19th century. Possibly older. The iron part looks to be hand-forged and the wood handle fits the hand real good. It is well crafted. Haven't seen one exactly like this or as nice for it's age. With it's hand forged iron on the chopping part and the wooden handle it is better than any that I ever found. I started collecting them when my husband was in Viet Nam. Then we had orders to N. Carolina. After many years I had collected a interesting and really varied selection of chopping tools. Harbour Lights Lighthouse, Gay Head Lighthouse on Martha's Vineyard, Mass.
I was a Commercial Fisherman out of Pt. Judith and Newport. R.I. for 30 years and these Lighthouses are all associated with different areas where I fished or ports I went into. I retired from fishing in 1992 and started this collection in 1998. Most are from Harbor Lights and are in the original foam and cardboard containers, most of the cardboard containers were stored for years and suffered from the dampness. The foam is still in good shape.

Offered here is a very uncommon. Wonderful 4pp. ALS, 5 1/2" x 8 5/8" folded sheet) dated Gonaives[Haiti] Jan. 18, 18] 70(NOTE: year of letter is difficult to read, but a reference in the letter places the date as circa 1870) written by Chas. F. Klinghammer, a former resident of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts and now(unhappily) living in Haiti: I am glad to hear such a good account of things on the Island. Of course there must have been a great change on the Island, among our old acquaintances& schoolmates. But perhaps when you see my'Photo' now missing] you will say that I have also changed a little, But such is life, always changing. There are no social pleasures here. The young men manage to pass away the time in drinking& all other vices, but what a life to lead. It makes me shudder to think of it. If ... moreI had known as much of the country, before I came out here, as I do now, I assure you, I should never have ventured to the Island of Haiti. But the deed is done& I must bear the consequences, good or evil I am glad to hear that the Dukes County Academy is in so flourishing a condition. I well remember the pleasant times, that I have passed there.NOTE: Klinghammer goes on to mention a professor there- Mr. Mitchell- which helps to establish the date of this letter. Dukes County Academy, located in West Tisbury on Martha's Vineyard, was incorporated in 1833. Moses C. Mitchell was on the staff there from 1869 to 1872. I often tried to get my sister to come down to the Vineyard to spend a few weeks when I was there. Folds, much right-edge wear(small losses, affecting a few words) toning/ some ink has lightened- overall about good.
