1794 Wallis Map- Department of Seine and Oise. Department of Paris John Wallis was a successful late 18th century English publisher operating from the Map Warehouse. 16 Ludgate Street, London. Many of his publications related to English counties or roads but in 1794 he took advantage of the interest in France by the English after the Revolution of 1789 and the changes in the administrative regions wrought by the Revolution. Several French publishers had created new'departmental' atlases and Wallis carefully'adapted' these for an English speaking audience and employed the noted engraver, Samuel Neele, to draw/copy these maps. The result was his'A New Atlas of France' published in 1794, an immensely detailed atlas of the country, in English for an English speaking audience. This nice map of Seine. It shows many towns and villages(which are illustrated to indicate their relative sizes) and has lovely detail to rivers, roads, and woods. This is a 6 feet x 8 feet piece of light guage fishing net we beachcombed on the Washington coast! The diamond pattern measures about 2 inch squares and the fading purple colored cord the netting is made with is about 1/16" wide. It is in good used condition and is not like the new stuff everyone is selling. There are some small holes but adds to the authenticity of the netting. Remember that this stuff probably caught Salmon or some other fish at one time. Lucky for us it broke loose from its floats and wash up on the beach! There is a musty smell or ocean smell from the netting being in the salt water but can be easily washed in a sink of soap or detergent. Gets rid of the smell all together! You are purchasing a 12 foot piece of braided 9/16 inch diameter green braided rope with 32 brown styrofoam floats. We bought these from a fisherman that fishes these type nets and then we bought them from him after he could no longer use the corkline for fishing. They usually change these out every 3 or 4 years and we get lucky enough to get them before they go to the landfill. This corkline is used with Alaskan seine and gill nets for fishing salmon. The brown floats measure about 3+ inches x 3+ inches. Size and spacing varies. They have a hole through the center and have the original 9/16 inch braided nylon rope through the floats. This is a 5 feet x 16 feet piece of fishing net we beachcombed on the Washington coast this last winter. The diamond pattern measures about 2" squares and the tan cord the netting is made with is about 1/16" wide. Netting is a little lighter than pic shows. It is in used condition and is not like the new stuff everyone is selling. The color has minor fading but adds to the authenticity of the netting. Remember that this stuff probably caught Salmon or some other fish at one time. There is a musty smell or ocean smell from the netting being in the salt water but can be easily washed in a sink of soap or Simple Green works great. Gets rid of the smell all together! You are purchasing a 14 foot piece of braided 9/16 inch diameter rope with 2 red styrofoam floats and 29 brown styrofoam floats. We bought these from a fisherman that fishes these type nets and then we bought them from him after he could no longer use the corkline for fishing. They usually change these out every 3 or 4 years and we get lucky enought o get them before they go to the landfill. This corkline is used with Alaskan seine and gill nets for fishing salmon. The largest red floats each measure about 5 inches wide and 7 inches long each. The brown floats measure about 3 inches x 3 inches. Size and spacing varies. They have a hole through the center and have the original 9/16 inch braided nylon rope through the floats. They are all used and have cracks. Chips and wear! They would look great hanging on a porch, fence, or a room with a ... morenautical or maritime theme. All are in good used condition. OLD CEDAR SEINE FISHING FISH NET FLOATS CRAB BUOY NATIVE CARVING
This is an old cedar fishing net float. We found it hanging on an old fishing gear shed. This one has been carved into a face. We have found a couple like this over the years. Most were found in Native American fishing net sheds. Its not the nicest one we have ever found but these are very rare folk art pieces. It measures about 3" wide and 5" long. This float is round in the middle and tapers on the ends. These were made by turning them on a wood lathe. It has a hole at each end for stringing it up or tying it to a net. This one has some wear from being fished for 70+ years. It would look great hanging on a porch. Fence, or a room with a nautical or maritime theme. It is in good used condition. This is an original tapestry based on a work titled"Peasant Girls Along the Seine" by Daniel Ridgway Knight. He passed away in 1924 so I think this was made before that. It is decorated with very stylisch pattern called“SEINE” The jug is made in the 1930s by the Gouda Plateel factory in Holland and measures 12cm in height and 9cm in diameter. It is in good condition with no cracks nor restorations, only some chips at the bottom rim, see pictures) which cannot be seen when the jug stands and do not disturb at all. Weight about 220g.
