Vintage Bamboo Fly Rod - Nickle Silver Hardware, Agate tip tops
Decided to let go of another rod. It is a vintage rod with no makers marking other than the signature wrap. Have been told that it could be an early high end Montague from the 1920s. But that's just an opinion. I haven't fished this rod or cast it so don't know the line weight, but would guess it to be a 4 or 5wt. I have the original bag and tube, but the tube is missing the cap. I'm pretty sure the finish has been redone by a previous owner. It's a three piece 9 1/2' all the sections are full length. Bamboo has the mottled flamed appearance. The two tips are wrapped differently photo 11 shows it best. one tip has a wider wrap of green& red which I assume one is for wet fly and the other is for dry fly. The different wrapping lets you know which tip your using. The tube has Edwards written on it maybe a previous ... moreowner. Aluminum reel seat piece is marked The H.L Leonard Rod Leonard& Mills Co Makers. This is an Old vintage fly rod. Was a friends gandpas, i don't know the age of the split bambo fly rod. the Butt piece is about 38-1/2" the middle section is the same as the butt. One of the tips is 34-1/4 inches& the other tip is 31-1/2 inches. Also has 2 canvas storage socks, one for the tip sections& one holds all pieces including aluminum brass tube tip container, tube about 39 inches. The pieces have not been put together in a long time, i put one piece one a little bit and it was to tight to completely slide on because a grease like protective lubricant has waxed up. so i decided not to put the rest of the rod together& allow the new owner of this rod to clean the fittings& re-lubricate the fittings, Thus i cannot tell you the ... moreassembled length of the rod. i pulled the piece back apart of course& the good popping sound was heard when i seperated them, this is good, it looks to me like all the pieces fitting will clean up nicely& fit snuggly after proper work. Here is an opportunity to get a Vintage Heddon Bamboo Fly Rod. This is Model#10“Blue Waters” and is a 3 piece 2 tip for total length of 9 1/2’ feet. The bamboo is in good shape overall. The varnish needs to be removed and redone. The guides on the mid section and both tips are on the rod. But the stripper is missing form the base section. The four pieces are full length measuring approximately 38 1/2” each. The Heddon writing on the handle is there and the rod model. Length, ferrule size and recommended line size is visible. The reel seat is broken and needs replacement. When refinished this would make a great rod for steelhead or bass. There is no sock or tube for the rod. I will pack well for shipping. Has cool spring loaded reel seat that works well. I have used this rod here in NW Montana with a 9wt line for pike and bull trout and can assure you it has good fishy mojo! Comes with G Loomis tube and sock. Rod is overall in good used shape, with normal scratches etc. Wraps and guides all solid. Cork is starting to ridge and wear a bit. Ferrule fits securely. Here is a Vintage South Bend Bamboo Fly Rod. This is Model#59 and is a 3 piece 2 tip for total length of 9 feet. The rod is in good shape overall. Some of the guides should have the wraps redone and the varnish touched up; or do a complete refinish. The four pieces have all of the guides including the original stripper. All sections are full length measuring 36 5/8” The South Bend Label is there and the rod model and length is visible but the Comficient Grip label is missing. This is a Granger Special 9 ft 3 piece and 2 tips. Total of 5 pieces. This is Granger bamboo that has been traded into our shop. The cork handle shows some discoloring. The butt and mid section pieces are straight. The two tips are of equal length but do show a very minor set to the left that could be easily removed, and the sock appears original. Logo is visible. Bamboo 9 foot fly fishing rod with case and extra tip section - very old.
Spilt bamboo 9 foot fly fishing rod.Very old, in excellent condition with extra tip section, cloth case and leather storage tube. This rod looks great and all components appear to be intact. I am not a fly rod expert, so I don't know the builder or how old it is. Others have said it is reminiscent of a Norman Aguters, but probably much older. The rod, cloth case and leather tube were passed down to me from the estate of my grandfather, a fishing guide on the Gunnison River in the 1930's.

This is for vintage Southbend bamboo fly rod in very good condition. It is a model#290. 7-1/2' 2 pc. one tip. All sections are full length and straight. I believe this originally had two tips because the bag is for a two tip rod. The Southbend label is 100% as is the the rest of the labeling on the rod. It says. Southbend. No. 290- 71/2 foot. Line.E or HDH. The reel seat is good. The cork is very good. The cork has a protective finish on it. No chunks out. The wraps are orange and black verigated and in very good condition. The ferrules and guides are very good. The finish is very good. This is a very nice rod in very good shape. It comes with its original bag in very good condition. The bag has the full label on it. Up for auction is an antique handmade 1946 Wright& McGill Stream& Lake 3 piece Fly Fishing Rod. It has an extra tip with it. Needs some professional work. I have the original white sock it came in I will ship with the rod. 1) T he nickel silver reel seat design was patented in 1938. The Stream& Lake was introduced in 1947. 2) Goodwin Granger(1889– 1931) designed the Champion Grade in 1933 in his company before Wright& McGill purchased the company and changed the name of the“Champion” grade to“Stream& Lake” 3) Wright& McGill leased the Goodwin Granger Company in 1946 and the sale to W&M wasn’t complete until 1958. They purchased the Goodwin Granger name because they could not get a market for their bamboo rods like Granger had. 4) In 1947 the W&M Company issued their first catalog and changed the“Champion” Grade ... morename to“Stream& Lake” 5) Eagle Claw” is a subsidiary of Wright& McGill primarily dealing in hooks and then fiberglass rods. The only markings on this rod are on the reel seat where it is stamped"South Bend Quality Tackle Bait Company" The reel lock nut is a friction fit with no threads. The first eye on the rod is Garnet/Agate. The rest are wire. All sections of this rod have a slight set, but nothing that is really that bad or unusual for rod this old. All sections of the rod fit together easily, but snugly and come apart with a soft"pop" All windings& eyes are tight& clean and the finish on the rod is still quite glossy. The canvas bag is torn at the flap and the original tag has been cut off of it. The bamboo tip case has a brass neck and threaded ... morecap. Both tips fit in the case. We looked at several hundred pictures of old South Bend rods and this rod looks the most like a mid-1930's model 25. But the catalogue does not show a bamboo tip case for that model. It's possible the tip case is not original to the rod or perhaps this is not a model 25. If anyone has any info or questions we will be happy to answer them to the best of our ability. UPDATE: We have received some info from an Ebay member(see Q&A below) who thinks this is most likely a model 19, circa 1925-30. Vintage April 12 1938 patent Wright& McGill Granger Deluxe split bamboo Fly Rod- 3 piece hex. Six sided construction, 9 foot 3 piece with extra tip. Very Good Condition. This was my father's rod. I don't know any more about it than what I learned through research. He was a rod builder and has done restoration in the past. I do not know if this rod has any restoration work. I left the patina so the photo of the rod seat are kind of hard to read. I assembled this rod just to measure it and would love to go fish it based on the beautiful action. If you have always wanted to fish one of these collectible rods without the hefty price tag this is it. This rod appears to have been refinished by a professional. All the wraps are tight. Varnish is beautiful, ferules pop when removed. No clicking in the ferules when making casting motion. I was told this was refinished in an Aristocrat wrap rather than the traditional Victory wraps. The fittings and adjustable"screw-grip" reel seat to the butt section are in aluminium, these do show some small patches of discolouration. It has"lockfast" joints and all of the rings are present and well attached, the top and bottom ring are agate lined, however, the bottom ring is bent forward. Up for auction i have this nice 8 1/2' Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod. The reel seat says Folsom New York and the logo is half visible on the rod. Its a 3 Pc and has an extra tip. I do fish and have seen many bamboo rods so i know some warping is not uncommon but i was pretty surprised when i put this rod together because its very straight.The extra tip however has a pretty good bend at the tip. Both tip sections are missing the top guides. The first(largest) guide is bent and the thread is starting to un-winde. The reel seat has a slight bit of movement left to right when you twist it. Heddon 9 ft split bamboo fly rod w/extra tip, excellent condt, 8 oz. pre 1952
Heddon 9 ft split bamboo fly rod made in Michigan pre 1952. Excellent condition and all guides are intact. Also has extra tip. Original cloth cover is included. Fly rod was my grandfathers and has caught a lot of fish. Many many good fishing years still available with this rod. On Feb-16-13 at 21:17:47 PST. Seller added the following information: Edit: Several folks have asked about any writing above the cork handle. There are none. Either Heddon didn't write anything there or my grandfather wore it off from use. If Heddon didn't write anything there. Then it must have been from earliest days when they may not have. The cloth tag is fairly old as well. The wt and length are clearly seen, but it's hard to read the rest. I'll try to get a decent photo of the tag& post it Sunday. The brass ring that holds the reel has a patent ... morenumber stamped on it so I will get that as well, but it too is hard to read. That is all. On Feb-17-13 at 13:15:02 PST. Seller added the following information: Edit: More pics added today and the patent number on the rod is 1524052. Though the cloth tag is hard to read. After three people inspected it we came to the conclusion it looks like a model 10. Also on the bottom of the tag, the letter S appears as if it was inspected by someone who's name started with the letter S. My father told me that his father had bought the rod new prior to him graduating from H.S. in 1952.

Montague Sunbeam Fly Rod Split Bamboo 2Pc Extra Tip Fly Fishing Bamboo Rod
This is a nice old Montague split bamboo fly rod. It's a two piece rod 7 foot 8" long with a extra 45-1/2" tip. So you get tree pieces total. All the metal guides are in good condition. The Montague sticker is all most all gone. But you can make it out. The blue reel handle is a plastic material. The cork handle shows some ware from use. All the bamboo is in great condition not coming apart.
