The printing on the rod has mostly faded and the rods weight is not visible. I bought this years ago and have used it with 5wt. fly line for trout fishing and the rod and line do match well. Used Sage SP Fly Rod. 6 weight, 2 Piece, 9 foot. The rod is in good condition and doesn't look like it was fished much. There is some slight discoloration to the cork handle, and there are a few scratches on the rod. The most notable scratch is a spot between eyelet 3 and 4 from the top, it looks like a fly rubbed the protective coating a little. It's too small to photograph. Considering its age. This rod is in great shape. Unfortunately, I don't have the original carrying tube or sock, only what is shown in the picture: a kind of old and beat up rod/reel combo tube and a green sock. In the interest of keeping domestic peace-and after protracted negotiations. I have promised to reduce the number of fly rods in the household. Not my idea, but I know better than to argue with the boss. Some of these are new rods. Some of them are high end. All of them are rods I would be willing to fish with, or I wouldn't have acquired them in the first place. On each, I will tell you what I know so you don't have to guess. This one: Not high-end but a quite decent and light rod that I bought several years ago for a back-up rod. The case has travelled but is still excellent. And the rod is mint, still has plastic around the cork, I have only cast it in the front yard when I bought it to make sure I liked it. Medium fast. Good power for its size and weight, I would recommend a Rio 5wt or similar line; it likes a reel of about 4oz-I ... morehad an Orvis BBS III on it, but there are many that would do and in all price ranges. Rod is smooth casting and feels light and responsive in the hand. Fittings are simple and well done-looks a lot like a Sage. Weight of rod including plastic wrapper is LESS than 3oz. so a handy,versatile rod, better than I expected for a rod which was under $100 when I bought it on sale. It is a good and versatile length, easy to cast, which is why I bought it- a rod you can fish OR loan or teach a youngster(or spouse) with and not feel like you are risking the bank account. Comes with Fenwick red sock and home-made PVC travel tube. Overall very good or excellent condition. No rash or marks on rod, all guides tight and clean. Slight scuffing on metal reel seat, nothing too significant. The model information is not worn off but is very tough to photograph due to the contrast color used. It is all legible but needs to be angled in the right light to read easily. G loomis Glx 8ft 6wt 2pc bass fly rod custom built build
I for auction a G loomis Glx 8' 2pc 6wt matt black bass fly rod that I built a few years ago and never got to fish. It comes with a full wells grip a machined alloy up locking seat a 1" fighting butt two stripper guides 16/12. Light snake guides and large tip top. and is fast action! It will throw those bulky bass flies with ease. I built this to fish Barrett lake in san Diego with massive bucket mouths in it along the shoreline but never got to it. Berkley Para-Metric P40 8'0" 6wt 2pc Fiberglass Fly Rod - w/ Orig. Tube & Sock
I love Berkley Para/Metrics with their spigot ferrules and so called circular taper. The 8 footers are the sweet spot for these rods and I like them better than the Fenwick FF79's and FF806's. The Silaflex 322980's, the 8 ft Phillipsons, and the 8 ft Cortland ProCrest's. If you do get a Berkley Para/Metric though, be sure to get either the P40(2pc) or PD40(3pc) They are the ones with the grip badge and wooden reelseat. Don't bother with one of the Gowdy's or the Standards. The Gowdy's are overbuilt and stiff. The Standards cast well but the grip and reelseat aren't as nice. These 8ft P40's as well as the 8ft PD40's are the best of the Para/Metrics by far. I usually buy them up when I can get them and give them away as gifts to kids, friends, etc. But I have a number of them right now and can sell one ... moreor two. This one is in absolutely terrific condition and has the hard to find original case and original sock. It casts a 6wt line perfectly at a wide range of casting distances. I've tried 5.5 wts and 6.5 wts with these 8ft 2pc P40's but they are always on the money with a 6wt line. Most of the time you find these rods, they are beat up because they were such good rods and people used them and didn't give them up. If you don't have one of these rods, take advantage of this one because they are extremely hard to find in this condition with original tube and sock. This one is priced the way it is because it is immaculate and has the original tube and sock. Orvis Vintage Western Fly rod 9`6wt.-2pc. Super Nice Cond.
Heres a super fine vintage Orvis Western 9` 6wt.2pc. Fly Rod. You can see by the pics(12) it has very little use on it. If any at all. I bought it as a collectable and to maybe use but didnt and am letting it go. The cork is in great shape with no chips and has never been dirty, the wound graphite is a nice gray in great shape, the wraps are in red. The guides, wraps, hook keeper and even the lettering are like new condition. The metal tube has some scratches and the decal has scratches but no dents in original alum tube with sock.
