I bought this one at the Winston shop in Twin Bridges. MT two years ago. I stopped by to take a look, tried this rod on their lawn and fell in love with it. It is light, fast, accurate and lays out a 3 wt line beautifully. However, I've never gotten around to fishing with it, so its time to pass it along to someone who will use it and enjoy it. This one has chrome hardware, whereas the current model sports nickel-silver hardware. You are viewing a gently-used Sage 486-4 Z-Axis fly rod- an 8'6" 4-piece 4-weight. This is an extremely desirable model of the famed Z-Axis series. This is a personal rod of mine which has landed quite a few nice trout throughout the western United States. But I was given a Sage ONE in the same configuration, and am not fishing this very much any more(full disclosure: not sure I really like the ONE any better! It's*way* too nice a rod to sit and rot in a case or closet, so I am putting it up for sale. This is a medium-fast action fly rod suitable for most trout applications. Small to medium dries or nymphs and small streamers(think#10 or#12 buggers) No sweat. As you well know. Wait times for a Mcfarland fly rod can be up to a year. They are in that kind of demand. This custom rod built on a Mcfarland blank is simply stunning. The raw glass has such an array of beauty to it. Setting it off is the burnt orange wraps, tipped in black. These wraps are perfectly complimented by the orange agate stripping guide and one of the absolute most amazing pieces of wood I have ever seen. This wood is called a natural afzelia burl. Which I have never seen before. Truly gorgeous. The four piece configuration makes backpacking a breeze. And when put together feels like a two piece. This is not a wimpy glass rod by any means. I have fished it less than five times, but have fished it on lakes, casting weight nymph rigs sixty feet without a hitch. Roll casting is this rod's forte. I am the original owner of this Hardy Zenith 8'6" 4wt rod. And it is in almost new condition. I bought it last year and fished it about 20 times. It is a 4 piece rode, and casts really smoothly. I am selling it because I have a 5 weight rod already, and need to sell this rod so I can buy a steelhead rod. There are no scratches or dings in the rod. I was very careful with it. The cork has a small chunk taken out of it, I included a close up of that area in my photos. The rod tube also has some scratches on it from transporting the rod, but it is only cosmetic.
