It looks used.the finish has some scuffs and the cork is smudged. The ferrules, guides and reel seat are all as they should be. Bamboo Fly Rod. E. W. Edwards 4 section(two tips) 9 ft. long for a 6 weight line. The rod has been refinished. NB: Edwards rods are often disputed for authenticity. So I had an expert friend tell me it is"likely" a Eustis Edwards rod, even though it is unmarked or the name has worn off over time. The ferrules and reel seat speak E. W. Edwards. There is no guarantee that it is absolutely an E. W. Edwards rod, but again, everything matches. Also, I have other Edwards' rods with signatures and this rod fits. The rod has been completely rewrapped in silk nearly identical to the original wraps that were tattered. The reel seat is wood. And at some time in its history, an owner of this rod made the notch in the seat a little deeper to accomodate the foot of his/her reel. No effect to its performance but should be mentioned. The cane ... moreis sound and the rods casts a 6 weight line smoothly. All the ferrules are original& nickel silver. One tip is short and is 30 inches long. the other tip is short at 35 inches long. The butt and mid sections are equal at 36 inches each. The varnish shows some crazing when looked at closely. But the patina on the rod is a beautiful, rich brown tone. This rod is most like getting closer to 90 years old. It still has a lot of life and should be fished. I hope the new owner will take this rod fishing. The rod comes in a non-original bag and tube. I have used this rod mostly for lakes in combination with a Hardy Princess. There's nothing sophisticated about my primary method. it's called dragging Woolly Buggers. Sometimes I cast-and-retrieve nymphs. Note: I detest chironomid angling and virtually never fish them. Anyway between the slightly soft rod action and the click-pawl drag on the Hardy Lightweight Series reel. I have never been broken off in stillwater while using this outfit; and it has accounted for multiple 18- to 20-inchers in California(Crowley and Manzanita Lakes) Montana(Georgetown Reservoir) Wyoming(Lake Nescio) and Oregon(Chickahominy Reservoir) If a fish gives a little surge, I just let him bend ... morethe rod, which is an excellent shock-absorber for the fraction of a second it takes the to reel start up in reverse. This rod has been fished a couple of dozen days over the last 10 or so years. It has been stored in the Orvis rod tube which you see in the picture. Winston BIIIX (B3X) 9 ft, 4 pc, 6 wt fly rod
This rod comes to you on sad wings. My cousin died suddenly a few weeks ago. He was single. With no children, and had no life insurance. It fell on his parents to pay the funeral bills. I am liquidating his gear to help defray those expenses on behalf of his parents. This rod is a Winston BIIIx. One of the premeir rods that Winston has ever produced. It is a 4 piece, 9 foot model, rated for 6 weight line. The rod is labeled as wieghing only 2 3/4 ounces! It looks as if a reel has never been mounted on it. Everything about this rod screams"new" But I have no proof of it was never used, so I am listing it as"used" The one mark on it is baffling. A circular black dot on the reel seat. See Pictures) I have no idea what the dot represents, perhaps some identification code he used. In any case I tried to wipe it off with rubbing ... morealcohol, but whatever ink he used refuses to be removed. The dot is on the seat where the reel foot will go, so it will be covered by the reel foot. We could find no tube or sock with this rod, but he did have some other tubes and socks that were empty, so I will provide a tube and sock for shipping purposes. I can make no other claims about this rod as I know nothing about it. Look at my feedback. I am a very honest person who values their reputation. Vintage bamboo fly fishing rod. Marked"Edward's Quadrate# 56-8822. According to information I found on line. This rod probably dates from the 1950s. The site described a number 56 rod as a"stiff dry fly rod" for a number 6 line. Rod is nine feet long and is a three section rod, with two tips- four pieces total. Each piece measures about 3 feet long. Edward's label on metal rod tube identifies the rod as a nine foot, 6 ounce rod. Cloth rod sock has some damage. Rod has a bit of rough finish on the large ends of sections- please read my condition description and inspect my photos for details. The TiCrX series rods are fast action sticks with reserve power for distance casting. This is the LT or light version of the TiCrX 6 weight. It uses the same blank as the standard model. But saves a full ounce of weight by employing 2 stripper guides, instead of the 3 in the standard model, as well as using a lighter, graphite insert reel seat and omitting the extension butt. This rod looks barely used. And is in near new condition. The bottom male ferrule has scratches, but otherwise the blank has no scratches, scuffs, nicks, etc. The grip shows only faint soiling. Rod comes with the compartmented sock and a blank warranty card. As is the case with most TFO rod models, there is no rod ... moretube included.
