This is an Orvis Battenkill 2/2 4 ounce bamboo fly rod. This rod was rarely ever fished. It is in absolute excellent condition. All sections are straight and original length. The ferrules are tight and wraps are perfect. I contaced Orvis and they conformed it was built by Ron White in 1990 SERIAL NUMBER 87802. It comes with a soft case and a hard tube case. The only issue I've been able to find with the rod is a small knick in one of the tips. Please refer to the pictures. VTG 1954 ORVIS BATTENKILL 7 1/2' Bamboo Fly Rod 3 3/4 oz IMPREGNATED
If you are looking for a museum piece. Please move on to the next 7 1/2' Battenkill. If you are looking for a beautiful, chocolatey colored 60 year old Orvis that is ready to fish for another 60 years, then this is your rod. The original wraps were dried and cracked so it was re-wrapped in the correct#541 Gudebrod brown with three coats of varnish. The ferrules, winding check and tip tops were re-blued by the best man in the business- Dave Leclaire. They have a nice snug fit and the familiar pop when pulled apart. Excellent condition Orvis Battenkill cane fly rod. the rod is 7 1/2 ft and designed for a 6wt line(though I used it with a 5 wt and it casted just fine) The rod has been well taken care of and it has no chips scratches or other defects. It is 2 piece and both are straight with no set whatsoever. The cork on the handle is in excellent condition(almost looks new) and the ferrules. Rod guides and windings are in great shape. Orvis Battenkill Bamboo Fly Rod 7 1/2' 6wt.
I have a 7 1/2' 6wt Orvis Battenkill Bamboo fly rod with two tips and matching serial numbers on all 3 pieces and rod tube. I contacted Orvis and found out that this rod was made in 1969 by Ron"Whitey" White. And Billy Young. Everything looks great on this rod, both tips are the exact same size. The finish is beautiful as are the wraps. The original owners name was put on the rod by Orvis, I've blacked out part of the name in the photo to preserve his anonymity. The tube is good shape, the label is a little worn, but that is to be expected with something 44 years old. The sock is original, it has a small hole in the toe that has been covered with a piece of duct tape, not really worth mentioning but want to be up front about any and all flaws. I haven't fished this rod personally, but I did take it out and lawn cast ... moreit with a cortland 444 DT, and let's just say if this rod doesn't sell I'll be happy taking it out on the stream. It has a lot of life left.

HCH(6) This appears to be a"6" but is hard to read. A"C" rod is normally a 7 wt. Made for"E.G. Pollack" Rare Wes Jordan(Battenkill-grade cane) 8' 6 wt. The lettering on the rod is mostly intact. The grip does show wear as pictured but in character with vintage. The grip also has two factory depressions for the thumb and hand. The rod is two-tipped with one of the tips a later Orvis factory tip. Which is properly serial numbered to the rod, and a little lighter in color(photo) As with Orvis line designations. This is a vintage orvis battenkill fly rod up for auction. The rod comes with its original metal case. And the sock is included. The rod has 2 tips. The case has a description and specific on it. But its kind of hard to read. I'll do my best here: the case says battenkill, and at serial it says 59542, whispch is the same as one of the tips say. It says at weight 3 7/8 I believe. Length says 7 1/2 2 piece. And the last label is something to do with test I believe, and there is a code. The code looks like ct-12 and then do-6. I am not sure if this means its a 6 weight fly rod or not. I can't read the last label hardly at all. The bottom section measures 45 1/2 inches. The rod seat is cork. And there is a significant piece of cork missing, see pic. The reel retainer works fine. I see no serial number painted on it anywhere, and it looks ... moreto have never been repaired. One tip section measures 44 inches. This one has no serial number on it. And I believe this one is the original tip section with the rod. I also see a metal repair that was made, and I believe orvis did it. Please see pic. The piece is still solid and intact. But, its shorter than the bottom section and the other tip, so I believe this was factory repaired. The second tip is painted with serial number 59542. And is 46 inches long. This tip section is lighter in colt as far as the bamboo is concerned. It also has a removable tip section, which the other does not. It appears as if this section may have been added later, maybe by orvis when the original section was repaired? I am not sure of this, but it looks consistent. The other 2 rods that don't have a number on them tell me this battenkill could be pretty old. All in all. This is a nice rod that has solid intact eyelids and threads, and I don't see any cracks or breaks. I stated the repair, but otherwise, its a nice vintage bamboo rod, and should make a nice addition to an enthusiasts or collector of bamboo fly rods. I am going to ship this rod in its case. This is a Skinner era Battenkill. Serial number 52487. I purchased on consignment at a Connecticut fly shop about 5 years ago. Where it was for sale by the original owner. Original sack, the one that forces you to put the butt section ferrule facing down. No repairs, cork excellent, seat in great shape, ferrules pop nicely. All rod sections and tube serial numbers match. Works well with either a 5wt or 6wt line.

Orvis Impregnated Battenkill 8 Ft, 4 3/4 OZ Bamboo Fly Fishing Rod, Tube, Sock
Vintage Orvis 8 foot bamboo fly rod. Two piece, two tips. Rod is marked"Orvis Impregnated Battenkill. It is also marked below that with the name of the original owner. Tube is marked"8 ft, 2 Pc. 4 3/4 ounce, 13. However, there is no line size or serial number either on the rod or on the tube. These may have been written in pencil on the tube label and worn off. The 4 3/4 ounce weight would seem to me to indicate a larger line size. The number 13 might also tell you something. You can compare to other similar rods on eBay, or if you are a trout junkie you probably already know the line size. Rod probably dates from 1950s or 1960s or so. 1961 ORVIS 8' BATTENKILL 2/2 BAMBOO FLY ROD S/N30962 TUBE SOCK TAG & ORG BOX
This auction is for a vintage Orvis Battenkill 8’Bamboo 2/2 Fly Rod Configuration that includes extra Tippet section with original Rod Sleeve/Sock. Rod Tube, original 8-page Orvis Hand Tag Rod Booklet and original Triangular Cardboard Shipping Tube including approximately 50% of the original Orvis Paper Shipping Label. The 2/2 HCH 4 ¼ oz. Bamboo Fly rod was built 11/6/61 by Orvis rod builders Calvin Skinner and George Reid working with Wes Jordan who ran the Orvis Company at that time until 1970. The bamboo rod comes with the extra tippet section, all three sections are of equal length with no sets and have S/N 30962 detailed on bamboo adjacent to ferrules, butt section is detailed with“Orvis Impregnated Battenkill” above hook keeper eyelet(SEE PIC) all line guides are complete, red/maroon wraps are tight, ferrules in great shape and ... morerod itself is in excellent shape and well taken care of. Note: The extra tippet section is very tight going into female ferrule on butt section. I can’t quite get it to seat fully and do not want to force. The tube label has all the pertinent rod specs and Orvis recommends fishing with a double tapered 6 wgt. Fly Line. Cosmetically, the rod looks great but is not perfect. There are a series of small dings dents on an edge where two bamboo flats intersect just adjacent to butt sections grey agate line guide that have what looks to be tape around them(SEE PIC) These are basically the only distressed marks on the rod plus the normal discoloration/wear of the cork handle and a few worn letters on the word Impregnated(SEE PIC) The green rod sleeve in excellent shape as well as the metal tube with the exception of a good sized dent approximately mid way down and the triangular cardboard shipping tube protected by a wax filmed paper is in very good shape especially the paper shipping label. The box does have some water marks and scuffs, scraps and minor tears on waxed outer and the top section of the box may have been forced into the inside bottom but I can’t tell for sure. I will l

Which is from a 1972 2-piece impregnated Battenkill 2-piece fly rod, HDG, 3-7/8 oz. Tip has 12/64th wound over machined nickel silver blackened ferrule in excellent condition. Full length tip is 45-5/8 in. Tip section is arrow straight with seven chrome-plated stainless steel snake guides& perfection tip top in like-new condition. Guide wraps are vintage light golden brown, transparent under Orvis varnish, correct for vintage, in excellent condition. Bamboo rod section has beautiful& consistent color and tone, characteristic of vintage Battenkill rods. Tip section comes with original fine gray poplin rod bag with tab. On the tube it states that this item has come from the USA and further research has confirmed this. The tube has other details ref the model number but that also has worn away. Nice ORVIS Battenkill 7 1/2' 3 3/4 Oz HDH Bamboo Fly Rod
This rod came in a group of rods that I purchased from an individual. It was born in 1960 and rated for an HDH. Which is a modern 6 wt. Most people use a 5 with this model and claim that it is one of the most versatile bamboo rods that Orvis ever made. I have the 3 7/8 oz version and can attest to it. I closely inspected it and can find no real flaws with it. The tips are not laser straight, as most cane rods are not, but are perfectly fishable and should have zero affect on the castability. All ferrules fit nice and tight, guides and wraps are good, as are the grip and reel seat. The sock has a hole in the butt section. It is not a show piece, but an excellent example of a great fishing tool. Shipping is $12.50 to the lower 48.

Orvis Battenkill Bamboo Fly Rod. 5 1/8oz. 8'6" 9 weight,2 piece, 2 tip in original bag and tube. Label on tube marked and fading. Excellent condition. Bamboo straight, wraps perfect, cork slightly soiled, cane perfect. The ferrules are a little tight and need a polish, but pop with authority on separation. Most think of this as an 8 weight rod, but I only ever cast a WF6F and WF7F on it and it went great. Very powerful bigger water rod and one for the collectors in this condition- not sure if fished much if at all. International contact for shipping as it's quite long. A lot of rod for the money!

This rod is in excellent condition with very minor soiling on the cork grip due to use. I glanced over this rod and could not find any glue line separations. This rod has been fished a few times and is excellent condition. This is a moderate to slow action 6wt and is a great streamer rod. The only reason I am selling this rod is because I need to downsize my collection and buy a spare tip for another Orvis bamboo rod that I own. Bamboo Fly Rod & Orvis Battenkill Large Arbor 1 Reel with Cortland DT4 Sylk line
I purchased this rod at the end of last season and used it 4 times: It was built by a well known Canadian rod builder from Novia Scotia. Rich's Valley Rods and comes with 2 tips(1 is slightly shorter than the other) and casts beautifully! My needs have changed and I have to move to a travel rod. The rod comes equipped with a used but perfectly good condition UK made Orvis Battenkill 1 fly reel& sheepskin lined case along with a brand new Cortland 444 Classic Sylk DT4 fly line which is designed for cane rods. Incredible small stream set up! The rod comes with a cloth bag and a brushed aluminum rod case. The rod cost me $280, the line $60 and there is a similar reel currently on eBay with a bid of $120. Vintage Orvis Impregnated Bamboo Fly Rod GBF (8) WT Battenkill Style 99 #42845
According to Orvis this Fly Rod was Manufactured on July 14. 1966 and the Serial Number is 42845. I purchased it used in the late 1970's and fished with it only a few times then put it up. This Fly Rod was refurbished by Orvis in April of 2002 including new windings on guides, the bamboo was refinished, new labels and a new Aluminum Fly Rod Tube. It has not been fished since then. NOTE: One tip is 1 1/4 inch short.

6 foot 6 inch. 2 oz. Orvis Impregnated"Battenkill Deluxe" built by Calvin Skinner and George Reid on April the 27th 1955. Serial#17256. In excellent condition with only very minor wear on the reel seat. Otherwise this rod is in like new condition. Cork is in beautiful shape as this rod has seen very little use. Here we have a beautiful Orvis Bamboo Battenkill Fly Rod. 8 1/5' 2pc. 2 tip with original rod sox and tube. This Orvis rod is 1 of 19 built with serial# 70633. Finished on 8/10/1973. Sold on 9/21/1973. This rod has the 14/64ths ferrule and is 4 3/4 oz. Slow action for a GBF 8 line. The tips are the exact same length and are in mint condition. This rod is in excellent condition This rod looks to have never been fished, I say this because it only looks to have handling marks with very little scratches and windings look like new. The ferrule is tight and reel seat has no impressions that look to have a reel on it. I've never fished this rod. I picked this rod up an a estate sale about 10 years ago with the dream of steelhead fishing with it. Rod tube has scratches, no dents. Please view pics. Any questions PLEASE ask.
