Full wells cork grip shows expected soiling from use but is sound with no soft spots. Uplock black anodized seat has a few marks and rubs but threads are good and work freely. The Blank still has a nice shine with only a couple very minor cosmetic marks. There is some saltwater corrosion on the 2 stripper guides and tip top but nothing major. Stripers- Tarpon- Permit- Bonefish- A standard of modern saltwater angling. Legendary Sage 990 RPLX 9 weight. 2 piece fly rod. Includes all factory original rod, sock and tube. Rod, including blank, guides and reel seat is like new with the exception of very slight soiling of the cork grip. Tube has minor scratches and scuffs. See photos. Out of production and hard to find in this condition. I have custom versions of the 890 and 990 RPLX crafted by Capt. Harry's in Miami and this was one of my backup rods to those. Used only a couple of times to check out. Spent the rest of the time in the tube waiting for something to happen to the custom 990 RPLX, but nothing ever did, so this one remained in the tube and is still like new. Considered by many to be much better than the RPLXi which sadly replaced it.

Factory built Sage 889 RPLX Graphite Fly Rod in good condition.8'9" 2 piece rod for a 8 weight line. This model was called the Bass& Bonefish. This is a factory built rod that has had some professionally done upgrades. The reel seat and cork have been replaced. The full wells cork is very good quality and has not seen much use. I would say the cork is slightly larger diameter than the original. The reel seat is a very nice uplock model that I would say is better quality that the original seat that came with this rod. One of the stripper guides has also been replaced. It is a pretty good match but has a slightly different color ring. Tip is correct length. The Blank still has a nice shine with and is clean no dings or marks. There is some very slight saltwater corrosion on a few of the guide feet. Rod comes with bag pictured no ... moretube.

This is a SAGE RPLX 9 foot. 9 weight, 3 piece. This rod is in what I would rate very good condition. There are a few normal usage marks on the mid and tip sections. Butt section pretty much immaculate. Very nice overall. Ferrules show almost no wear at all and there is a lot of life left in this classic SAGE RPLX. This older generation Graphite ... moreIII edition Sage GFL 890-3 RPLX Fly Rod indeed shows some signs of natural cosmetic wear and tear in the expected high traffic areas. As the photos show. The cork grip displays some staining from previous handling, and there are a few minor chips, small gouges, and bit of missing fill to be noted. While not as bright or as shiny as it once was new, the up-locking anodized aluminum reel seat still looks handsome and still functions perfectly too. A close inspection of the rod's glossy brown blank from tip to butt reveals the expected small usage marks in the typical high traffic areas. But otherwise shows no signs of catastrophic abuse like deep scratches, scores, or penetrating nicks that would in any way suggest the rod's original strength or integrity as compromised. A close review of the rod's guides does confirm a faint trace of tarnish and slight hint of oxidization around the base of both stripping guides(see pics! But no other greivances like grooving, deformation, or misalignment was found. A quick test-assembly and deep flexing confirms all ferrules as still snug fitting. This is one of the best saltwater rods ever. this rod has the back bone to lift heavy fish. With the casting ease that Sage is famous for. If one can get past the hype and cast these older rods, one would have to wonder why we spend so much money for a rod. I think for saltwater you cant beet the 3rd generation RPLX rods. Up for auction is a Sage RPLX 9ft 8wt 3 piece that is in great condition for its age. I glanced over this rod and the only thing I noticed were two surface scratches as shown in the pictures 3 and 4 on the rod and couple on the reel seat from mounting the reel(picture 5) This rod has been babied and served as a back up for me. The only reason I am selling this rod is that it has not been used in several years and I have already bought another Sage fly rod to replace it. I am starting this rod at $150(plus $20.00 for shipping) which is well worth my asking price. I only have the original rod sock and I can not find the original rod tube. This rod was stored in a travel case that held 3 rods so I didn't need the aluminum tube anymore. HI And away goes my second fly rod for Tarpon. Another Sage 1290-3 RPLX-i. This one a bit more used than the first. Comes with original rod tube and sock. This solid Sage has signs of slight boat rash in places, all very light and not only cosmetic, but not really visible till you look for it. In no way is the rod affected by the marks. Cork handle and fighting grip are in fine shape, as is the reel seat section. Plenty of hard fighting life left in it. I know as soon as it sells I will get the opportunity to throw flies at some tarpon, so I really hate to see it go, it is my last 12wt rod and only one big reel left, too. The tube appears to be a Landmark aluminum fly rod tube with a SAGE RPLX cap on it. However Landmark replacement caps don't work on this tube. They seem to have a different threading scheme. So it could be a Sage tube where the logo rubbed off. I don't know. Not much more to say. A new Sage fly rod tube costs around $70. This well used condition fly rod tube is much less here at eBay.
