With the intent of full disclosure, here is a list of pros and cons: Pros- nice rod for delicate presentation of dry flies in small rivers. But with enough backbone to handle lunkers includes aluminum tube and top quality(Sage) rod sock free shippping cork handle fine sanded to like new condition would pair nicely with the ORVIS reel I have for sale in another auction use Buy it Now and get it in time for Christmas- priced to sell Cons- this rod has been repaired by me after it broke just below the stripper due to a trip/fall where the rod got the worst of it- see the last picture- cosmetically not pretty and 2 inches shorter. But with a 4" steel pin inside(2 ... moreinches either side of the break) it is very functional, and since it is a fast action rod, most of the flexing is in the upper section which is in very good condition with no nicks as I never used it for nymphing or streamers. Also, rod tube cap was lost, so a hardwood substitute does the same job as the metal cap, just not as pretty. If you are buying gear to impress your friends, pass on this one. Up for sale is a Beautiful Orvis Trident TL 4 piece Fly Fishing Rod. This comes with a semi hard Red carrying case. There are only 2 minor issues I found with this. The trident on the pole looks to be worn off slightly and the butt cap seems to be on loosely. Other then these very minor issues this seems to be in very good condition. Orvis Silver Label TL 9' 8 wt 2-piece Mid-Flex Fly Rod w/ Safe Passage Case!
For your consideration- an Orvis 9-foot 8-weight Mid-Flex Fly Rod with Composite Fighting Butt and an Orvis Safe Passage Case. My father bought this fly rod in North Carolina in the late 90's. And used it on exactly 5 weekend trips looking for redfish until they relocated to Kansas City 1 year later. The rod has spent the entirety of the interval since inside the case within a closet in their smoke-free. Pet-free home. The cork is beautifully clean, the beautiful charcoal-colored blank is still bright and clean, and the guides are smooth and rust-free. The reel seat shows nearly no wear, and the threads are smooth and clean. There are a couple of small details to mention regarding the condition- and both are pictured above. There is a small chip in the cork by the reel seat. It's about the size of half of a tic-tac. And would be easily ... morefilled with cork dust and glue. There is also a scuff in the blank that looks to go through the layer of epoxy. I was told by a couple of guys that this is also easily repairable with a little fly epoxy, and that it would not affect performance. This is a used rod, and there are other signs of light use completely consistent with normal wear. I never attempted repair on any of these issues, though I read that automotive plastic polish can remove any scratches or surface marks on a blank. I don't want to belabor the condition issues- it's still in great shape with many many years of use left. Knowing my father, I know that fly fishing attracts an extremely meticulous, detail-oriented person, generally speaking, and I want to be sure you get exactly what I am describing. The Orvis Safe Passage Case is pictured. As well, and will hold the rod when rigged up with reel and line for use at a moment's notice. There is slight fading consistent with its age, but the zipper works smoothly and perfectly, the interior pockets are tight and clean, and there are no gouges, rips, tears, snags, or mechanical problems of any sort. I have used this rod mostly for lakes in combination with a Hardy Princess. There's nothing sophisticated about my primary method. it's called dragging Woolly Buggers. Sometimes I cast-and-retrieve nymphs. Note: I detest chironomid angling and virtually never fish them. Anyway between the slightly soft rod action and the click-pawl drag on the Hardy Lightweight Series reel. For your consideration is a really nice Orvis 7 Piece TRIDENT TL FLY ROD. Rod is in really great condition. All the eyelets are very good and the cork and reel seat is perfect. It has a few little marks on the butt end and two tiny little marks on the blank where maybe a fly has hit and a few scratches on the rod tube. But over all this is a beautiful fly rod. This is a much higher level rod than the Frequent Flyer Rods. This was not a $200.00 special. This one is made in the USA, not China. These rods all have the 25 year warranty as most of you know. It is an Orvis Silver Label TL Mid Flex 8.0- 9 foot 4 weight 3 1/8oz 2 piece fly rod. It has the traditional Orvis grey graphite blank with blue wraps. It is lightly fished and in very good used condition. The only evidence of use is a slight discoloration of the handle. It comes with the original rod sock and rod tube as shown. The rod tube has a label with the name of the shop where he purchased the rod. The zipper on the rod tube is a little stiff from lack of use. The one offered is fresh out of a storage locker. It looks to be in good condition, the handle has a bit of wear but I can see no other problems. I'm not sure that the tube is the correct one for this rod but it does fit.
