Up for Bids today we have a nice example of a Sage Z-axis 5126-4 Spey rod. That is a 12 foot 6 inch rod that casts a 5 weight Spey line. This rod is in excellent used condition with no scratches on the blank and a very minor mark on the reel seat. The cork is sound and is only slightly discolored. This 5 weight spey rod is great for Summer Steelhead or large Trout fishing out west. As well as summer grilse in the Atlantic. I used a RIO AFS 4/5 head on this rod and it would cast great. Sage Z-Axis 11 foot 5 weight Switch Rod Comes with Rod Sock and Sage Original Rod Tube Original Retail Price $715.00 This is a USED Sage Z-Axis 5110-4(11 foot 5 weight 4 piece) switch rod. They no longer make this model. You will pay $850.00 to buy either of the rods that have replaced the Z axis(TCX or ONE) Sage also does not make 11 foot switch rods anymore. Anything longer than 11 feet is not really a switch rod but just a short spey rod. This rod can easily be used for single hand overhead casting or line it up with a spey line and cast it two handed! The rod has been used and has some cosmetic imperfections. The cork is in fantastic shape and has NO cracks or chips. It is darkened slightly by use but is in otherwise great shape. The reel seat has a small 1 milimeter scratch where you can see some silver through the black but the scratch ... moreis very small. There is some small cosmetic scratching on the butt section but nothing that imacts the integrity of the rod. The top wrap on the butt section has some discoloration on one side. I do not know what caused the discoloration but the thread is lighter on one side(visible in pictures 6 and 8) The next section up from the butt section is in great shape. Section 3 has some minor scratching as does the butt section and the top guide wraps have similar discoloration to the butt section. The tip section is in great shape. The rod tube is in good shape but has several stickers on it from shipping. This rod casts like a champ. If you are looking for a TRUE switch rod this is your rod. Sage is a great rod builder and they stand behind their product. This rod retailed for $715.00 and was worth every penny. It is in all-original condition. With nothing broken, repaired or missing. Made in Wes Jordan’s time at Orvis. It has the aluminum down-locking reel seat and the permanent extension handle with the rubber button. The ferrule fits are tight. And the tips sections are straight. It has hardly been used. The rod feels like a#7 DTF line will suit the action. It comes in the original cloth bag and Abercrombie& Fitch labeled aluminum case. This is a very nice example. The Beulah Platinum Series 13'2" ... more4pc 7wt Spey rod being auctioned here naturally shows some signs of light cosmetic wear or tear that one would expect in a rod that's seen occasional use. As evidenced in the photos. The upper and lower cork grips show a modest bit of staining from previous handling, but remain overall, refreshingly void of any major chips, gouges, or excessive missing fill. Still bright and shiny like it was when first purchased. The sturdy up-locking reel seat still looks great, and was confirmed to still function perfectly too. A close review of the rod's glossy black blank from tip to butt reveals the typical light scrapes and scuffs in the expected high-traffic areas. But no signs of catastrophic abuse like deep scratches, scores, or penetrating nicks were found that would in any way hint the rod's original strength or integrity as compromised. While a close inspection of the rod's guides revealed no trace of tarnish. Rusting or oxidization present, it does appear that one of the rod's wire snake guides was mildly deformed at one time(see detailed pics! Used but in great condition! Includes 5' Aluminum tube. Used Twice to practice spey casting but I did not get the hang of it. I cleaned it up put in my closet with the idea that I would take it out again for another outing but its been in there ever since. The cork grips and butt are in excellent condition(clean and smooth) and NOT cracked or breaking apart. The blank and finish are smooth clean with no cracks. All guides are present and in great condition. Stripping guides have their ceramic inserts and snake guides are in excellent condition. There is one"blemish" on the end of the middle ferrules. I'm not sure exactly what it is. But it looks like discoloration of the wrapping under the clear coat, but it is NOT chipped, cracked, splintered or an opening in the finish. St. Croix Imperial IF14010 2-Handed Fly Rod, 14 ft, 9/10 wt - Excellent, In Case
My husband bought this rod a couple years ago from a friend and has never used it; he thought he would get into fly fishing. But that didn't happen and he has moved on. The friend had only used it a few times, so it's in nearly-new condition. It's a St. Croix Imperial 14' fly fishing rod, all graphite, with a 9/10 weight. The pole is in 3 sections, each of which is 57.5" long. Everything on this rod is top-notch, the ends are reinforced internally with cork for added strength without added weight. This is definitely a two-handed rod, not super lightweight but a real casting machine! It was made in the early 90s and is not made anymore, it's becoming more difficult to find them and they usually go fast. It will handle a wide variety of lines. A very nice rod!
