Up for auction is this older Hardy Bros. 4 ½ inch Longstone single action fishing reel. This reel has had a new drum piece replaced by a retired ... moremaster reel craftsman from England that used to work for Hardy Bros. It has two large ebonite tapered handles and a brass ribbed foot which is attached to the frame with four brass screws. This reel also has an on/off casting/ratchet lever located on the side of the frame and a knurled drag adjustment knob located in the center of the drum. It is mechanically sound throughout and the drum spins very freely and true. Hardy’s name. Reel name and patent number 24245 is stamped on the back of the cage. In addition. There is an oval silver plate attached to the back of the reel with the inscription“Made For Manton and Co. Calcutta” Circa mid 1930’s making this reel approximately 75 years old! I'm an ardent fisherman and thought I would take up Fly Fishing when I retired as I had been able to purchase this exceptional Hardy bamboo rod about twenty years ago from a close family friend that had belonged to their Grandfather. He had 5 Hardy Rods. Two of which they said he had never used. I choose The Kenya. Unfortunately no reels or other equipment were to be found. Now that I'm ready to take up the sport. I feel I should"walk before run" and find some less expensive equipment. While I know very little about this calibre of Fly rods, from what I have been able to determine, my Rod is highly regarded. To my knowledge it has never been fished. Hardy's had indicated that the Kenya Model was built from 1934 to 1957 and this superb Rod was made in 1950. This is a nice Vintage. Classic 2 piece Fly Rod made in England by Hardy. It is the" Palakona" The Hardy Wanless" 6lb rod made in 1955. The Registration number is H4592. This has been hanging in a garage of a riverfront home in northern NY for quite some time. The ferrules look good and clean but will need a little lubrication. The finish on the rod is in good condition. No visible chipping, cracking, or crazing. This is a 2 pc rod, the butt end has 1(one) larger ring/guide and the tip section has 6(six) smaller rings/guides. All of the rings/guides are tied tightly with crimson and green whipping. The larger 1st ring may have been rewrapped on the cork side. as the whipping is a bronze color.yet it looks to be original(picture#1) All 7(seven) rings do show some minor rust, the last ring is lined(agate) The cork handle does ... moreshow some use, with a few areas where small pieces of cork have disappeared.probably from a fly hook. This is a Hardy's"The Houghton" No. E5296" 10' 6" 3piece 2 tip fly rod. This rod dates from 1940 and looks to have been never restored. But looks to have been revarnished. The spear and reel fittings to the butt section are in alloy. The butt and top rings are agate lined. It has"lockfast" joints and all of the rings are present and attached very well. The rod appears to be straight, but the tips have a slight set to the right. The close green whipping is in very good condition. The rod has some scuffs and scrapes, but in very good condition for it's age. The alloy butt is impressed with"Made By Hardy Bros Ltd. Alnwick, England" and"Pat No. 20875/22" to the reel ring. Royal Appointment Crest, and the number"E5296" 1940) Just above the handle, written in Indian Ink is"No. ... more246936. Palakona Regd. The Houghton" The rod seems to be in it's original state. For auction we have a Hardy Brothers Richard Walker Reservoir Fly Rod.This rod is a super rare F/K marked rod which makes it made around 1970 and was only made for two or three years and it was in effect the prototype for the Richard Walker series of rods.The whipping color is different to the later long running series and the reel seat is of an end butt type which was not used on a rod of this size as the series developed. It also has an early type spigot joint.It is 9 foot 6 inch in length and is unusually not marked for a line weight.I would guess it would be around an#8.This rod is in amazing condition for its age and hardly has a mark on it,it may never have been fished,the butt and tip eyes are lined and the cork is superb.Comes with bag which may be original but has no markings and original label,Rod will be shipped in a plastic tube ... morefor protection.This is a chance to own an almost impossible to find early Hardy Glass rod with connections to the iconic Richard Walker. VINTAGE HARDY PALAKONA REGAL FEATHER WEIGHT SPLIT BAMBOO FLY FISHING ROD This auction is for a vintage four piece Hardy Brothers Alnwick England split bamboo fly rod with tube(missing end cap) and original storage sleeve. It measure 8’10” with one tip and 8’9” with the second tip. There are inscriptions on the bottom section and reel seat cap which read“Palakona Regal Trademark Feather Weight. Made by Hardy Brothers Alnwick England and By Appointment 27329. It would estimate it would cast with a five weight fly line. The 6 ¼” cork handle has some slight wear near the bottom but is fully functional. The screw down lock reel seat is in great condition. There are three guides on the mid and tip sections and a stripper guide on the bottom section. Both of the tip sections are short. The rod fits together perfectly when assembled and has ... morethe distinct pop sound when removed. The brownstone colored bamboo cane and varnish finish are in their original condition. All of guides wraps and intermediate wraps are tight and solid. The rod has a classic bamboo cane casting action; wait until you try it. A 3-section rod with spare top section and 9'6" long for a 5 weight line. Built from Palakona cane with crimson tyings. Agatipe butt ring with fullopen bridge intermediates and agatipe end rings.
