The only blemish on the entire rod. Is a chip in the cork handle, which can be seen in the photographs. I purchased this rod new and it is a dry fly dream. Factory Custom RL Winston BIIX 9'0' 5wt
Up for auction is a used Winston Boron IIx 4 piece rod complete with factory sock and rod tube. The rod tube was never used and is in excellent condition. After I bought the rod I sent it back to Winston to have them put a larger custom cigar grip and they also replace the orginal eyes and tip that were well know for the noise they made as the line ran through them. I also had a professionally installed spalted hickory spacer installed using the original black hardware that came with the graphite reel seat. Rod was well taken care of and not used that often as I live about 6 hours from the closest decent trout stream. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. WINSTON BIIx 1090 Fly Rod 9' 10 Wt Custom *BEAUTIFUL*
I am selling a bunch of custom rods from a guy that does about 20-30 per year. He does it for his therapy and then purges a bunch at a time. He does fish some of them. But there are so many, that no one man can put that many hours on that many rods. He learned to wrap rods from the local fly shop owner and rod builder, so he knows all of the tricks of the trade and has improved on some. He specializes in larger, saltwater rods, so they are built better than any factory rod and uses top end components. Most of the rods have at least two, if not three stripper guides. He seals the cork grips to protect from body oils, dirt and fish slime, which is why most of the cork is slightly off color. This BIIx looks barely used and is absolutely gorgeous. Most do not have socks or tubes unless pictured. Shipping is $9.50 to the lower 48.

If you appreciate a moderate fast action rod with a tippet protecting tip capable of fishing tippets as light as 8x without breaking off fish. This is the rod you are looking for. The rod is extremely versatile, capable of very delicate short range presentations, yet because of the boron butt section, able to carry a lot of line in the air and deliver long accurate casts. The nine foot length also greatly aids in mending the line for longer drag free drifts. It is also an excellent roll casting rod. The rod has some minor scratches on each section but is in perfect working condition and appears to have seen limited used on the water. If you are not familiar with the"Joan Wulff Favorite" term, it is used to distinguish the custom cork handle. All"Joan Wulff Favorite" series rods are sanded down where the thumb meets the cork to allow for a more comfortable grip, which lessens hand and arm fatigue over a day of casting. There is a misconception that this style grip is only for women but that is not true. The sanded thumb area will allow for easier casting with less fatigue regardless if you are a man or women. Winston BIIX 14' 8/9 Weight 4 pc. Spey Rod
This is an ideal rod for large fish swimming in big water. Rod has seen several seasons of use but kept in good shape. I detailed some images of the ferrule connections as well as a few surface rubs. None of which are detrimental to the performance of this rod. The connections were taped religiously while in use. This smooth loading, lightweight, fast-action fly rod naturally shows only a faint few nominal signs of trace cosmetic wear and tear in the expected high traffic areas. As evidenced in the photos. The cork grip display a modest bit of light staining from previous handling, and save for one small chip found on the handle forward leading edge(see pic! the grip remains refreshingly void from any major dents, gouges, or excessive missing fill. While not as pristine perhaps as it first was new. The sturdy up-locking woven-graphite reel seat looks great and still functions perfectly too. A close inspection of the rod's signature glossy green blank from tip to butt reveals the typical small scuffs and scrapes in the usual places. But no signs of catastrophic abuse like deep scratches, scores, or penetrating nicks were found that would in any way hint the rod's original strength or integrity as compromised. This is a Winston B2X 9' 10wt. 4pc. fly rod. I had Winston put a MX reel seat on it as I preferred the aluminum reel seat and slightly bigger fighting butt. This rod is in good condition and shows normal. But minimal wear. Used a handful of times over the past several years for saltwater fishing the only blemish that was obvious is a bit of boat paint that is on the ferrule(shown in last image above) I'm sure this could be removed with a mild solvent, but it has no affect on the rods performance.

Its light weight makes it a pleasant casting rod for an eight weight; most casters can cast it for long periods with less fatigue. This rod was used on only two or three fishing trips. While there is surface wear and scratches on the exterior of the rod tube(see photos) The rod itself is in great condition. Here for auction is a R. L. Winston Boron IIx nine foot six weight fly rod. This rod has never been fished. Only lawn cast. It is in mint condition, as can be seen from the photographs. The aluminum tube(rod case) has some light surface scratches near the bottom end, and the writing on the Winston logo tube cap is almost entirely missing. The nine foot six weight is one of the favorites in the Winston BIIx series. It is an excellent dry fly rod with power to throw streamers and nymph rigs as well. Some love it for the touch and feel it offers for making pin point casts short to medium range- like dropping a hopper just off the bank. It has the smooth Winston action. With boron in the butt to mid section. The rod has extra power for longer casts and wind. When these rods were first produced, they were some of the lightest, most responsive ... morerods available. Known as the BIIX, is in good to fair condition overall. This rod has been used a good amount. The four rod pieces look very nice with a few minor scratches found, primarily on the first two rod pieces. The guides and ferrules also look good overall. The most notable flaw on this rod is on the cork grip- it has a few small chunks of cork broken off at the very top of the grip(see picture) The missing part is very shallow(roughly 1/8th of an inch) While not aesthetically perfect, we don't see any reason this flaw would affect the rod's performance. The cork grip is mostly clean otherwise and the cork butt is in good condition. Despite some wear on this rod, it is functionally sound and would make a great spare rod for the angler in need. This is an extremely powerful 10-weight that weighs in at just over 4 ounces. This 10-weight fly rod would be a great choice for big winds, big flies and fish like permit, giant trivially, trevally. Tarpon and dorado. This rod comes with original Winston rod sock and tube. The rod sock has"9-10 IIx" written in red marker on it(see pictures) The rod tube is fairly beat up(scratches& stickers)
