It measures approximately 20" x 13" x 12" It has LOTS of lure compartments and all trays/compartments are in good condition. Given the age of this box. It would say it is in pretty darn good condition. All of the hardware works well. Please view my photos closely as they are the primary description. I am not a collector. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE LARGEST TACKLE BOX THE UMCO COMPANY EVER BUILT. IT HAS TEN FOLD OUT TRAYS. WITH BLACK PLASTIC INSERTS WHICH HAVE A TOTAL OF 90 COMPARTMENTS, THAT IS 45 TO A SIDE. ALL THE COMPARTMENTS ARE CLEAN AND NICE, AND NO WORM BURNS. IT'S HARD TO FIND ONE WHERE THE PLASTIC TRAYS ARE THIS NICE. THERE IS ONE DETRACTOR IN THAT ONE OF THE BOTTOM CORNERS HAS A SLIGHT IMPRESSION. NO CRACKS, NOTHING THROUGH THE BOTTOM, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED, BUT THIS THING IS BUILT TO TAKE ANY SORT OF PUNISHMENT. THE POSSOM BELLY IS ALSO MISSING AS IT IS ON MOST OF THESE BOXES. Vintage UMCO 3500 U Possum Belly Tackle Box 70 Lure Compartments Plus Worm Trays
Made in Watertown. Minn. in the 1960's and 70's this C-5 of tackle boxes big is enough(22" wide x 20" tall x 13" deep) to hold 70 lures in their own compartment(and many, many more if they share their spaces) plus 14 compartments for worms, harnesses, steel leaders, pliers, hook removers, etc. then there is a tray with 5 compartments measuring"1 x 5" x 3 3/8" for whatever. This complex of ten natural color aluminum trays is held by folding cantilevers that expand to expose all trays. It then measures 49 1/2" wide by 18" deep for easy access to all contents of the box including the generous 20" x 11 1/2" x 5" bottom section of the top box. The trays can be expanded one side at a time to save room and collapse into a neat 18" by 11" by 6 1/2" space for carrying and ... morestorage. All this is held together by stamped aluminum hinges, clasps and other brass colored fittings on the outside. Now the possum belly. It attaches with one clasp on each end and snuggles up to a foam sealing strip which is secured by an aluminum band affixed with rivets to the top box. The belly adds a cavernous 22" x 13" x 6" uncluttered space for extras we all need when fishing. The complete tackle box. This example would be in like new condition were it not for the heat damage on the left side of the rear clamshell where the crinkly green plastic skin was deformed. See the last picture. The area could easily be sealed with a variety of materials but that is a decision the buyer should be free to make. Truly an impressive example of the tackle box technology and ambition.
