Vintage Union Steel Chest Corp TACKLE BOX Blue Two Tier Model 5413 EXCELLENT
This is a very nice old tackle box made by the Union Steel Chest Corporation of Leroy. N.Y. It measures 13-1/4 inches wide, 5-1/2 inches tall and 6-1/4 inches front to back. It has a metal handle on top and is painted a deep blue. The paint is in very good condition with very few scratches and scrapes. I've taken pictures from every angle so that you can judge condition for yourself. The box closes with a flip latch that has a ring for a lock. Once the latch is lifted you still have to press to open(marked"Spill Proof" The top of the box has a ruler for measuring fish. As you can see from the pictures, the inside is like new. It comes with 2 original keys and the original advertising paper that had the price on it. The box is 15" wide. 8" front to back, and about 8" high not including the handle. The two tiers of compartments are aluminum. The lock on the front is brass. The keys are steel. This comes from the inside of the paper: This new UNION Tackle Box is made of 40% FIBERGLASS reinforced polyester. The color is permenantly[sic] molded in. The fibers you see throughout the material resist stress from every direction like the steel ... moremesh embedded in concrete highways. It's light. Rust and corrosion proof, almost completely indestructible. It will last you a lifetime of fishing- ANYWHERE. The same page of the card states"Fiberglass is a new but PROVEN material now used extensively where strength. Light weight, and resistance to weather are needed- steel workers' helmets, boats, fishing rods, and even auto bodies. Since it is calling this a"new" material, the advertising dates the box. Heavy plastic handle is in excellent condition see pic. 10. Made of heavy steel it is gunmetal grey in color. Measures 16-3/4" long, 8" wide and 10" high, 12" to the top of the handle. The decal is still on the lid between the handles. I cannot see a model number on this tackle box. This tackle box weighs 8 lbs. unpacked. The tackle box measures 14-1/4" long x 7-1/4" wide x 5-3/4" tall when closed. Vintage 1966 Union Steel Chest Fishing Tackle Box-Spill Proof Latch - Model 5419
This is a vintage metal tackle box- marked Union Steel Chest Corp. Leroy, NY, Made in USA, Pat. No. 161530. Original tag says Model No. 5419. There is another tag with the date 17 Jun 66 written on it. This is a very nice, classic, vintage piece. It has been used and shows the scuffs and wear from over 40 years of fishing trips. But it still has lots of use left it in. Please examine the pictures closely for best idea of condition. Nice, solid tackle box. It has a Spill Proof latch that helps insure that even if the latch hasn't been locked, as long as the lid is fully closed, you can still lift it without spilling. A very valuable addition to make sure all of your tackle stays in the box. LOTS of storage room. Large lower area and two trays that fold out with the lid. Measures approximately 14 inches wide by 7 inches wide by 7.25 inches tall. Has two folding trays with 11 compartments and bottom bin. Top tray has seven compartments and bottom tray has four. In good condition. Although it shows its age. Some scuffs in finish, some rust(inside and out) and a dent on one side of the lid. Union" logo is on plastic handle. This Union aluminum tackle box is in okay shape. But does have a few dings, plenty of scratches, and some general rusting to both the outside and inside. It still opens and closes smoothly, and the latches work great. It comes with an assortment of vintage tackle, which includes a piece by South Bend, an M2, two boxed Flatfish(the boxes aren't pretty) a vintage bird wing hula popper, and plenty of other stuff.
