It opens into two pieces but stays together because of the very orate hinges. The push in lure foam shows signs of use but is still functional. THIS IS A VERY NICE VINTAGE WOOD FISHING TACKLE BOX IN DECENT CONDITION. IT MEASURES 16" LONG BY 13-1/2" TALL BY 11" DEEP AND WEIGHS 11 POUNDS. IT WAS NICELY MADE OF 3/8" MARINE PLYWOOD. IT WAS ORIGINALLY MADE A BOX. THEN THE TOP CUT OFF FOR A MORE TIGHT SEAL. THE TOP OPENS TO A LARGE SECTION TO THE RIGHT AND A PLACE TO HANG JIGS TO THE LEFT, THAT ALSO HAS LIFT OUT DIVIDERS. BELOW THERE IS A LARGE SECTION TO THE RIGHT. THE HINGES AND THE FRONT HARDWARE WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE LEFT LOWER FRONT AND BACK CORNER HARDWARE ARE MISSING. This is an Early 1900s Dove Tailed Wood Tackle Box. Made by Deulin. Still solid and quite useful. The original hinges and handle gave out a while back but replacement hinges kept the tackle box functioning. The handle is an easy fix. The top drawer is able to be slid back and forth or remove it completely. Some age discoloration in places but no big deal. A great addition to your vintage fishing collection. Although, I am not sure as it is not marked or could be a skilled carpenter's creation. It is hand crafted using beautiful solid Honduran Mahogany. It features(2) trays, one is hidden under the inside flip-up cover. Both trays and bottom compartment is lined with cork. The corners have vintage brass corner protectors and the back panel has a support for the cover to safely rest on. It has vintage piano hinge latches, a lock hasp to keep contents secure and a convenient brown handle. All screws used to secure the brass hardware is slotted.
