Dr. Louis T. Kurtis and Unknown Mfg. Two Vintage Bait Rigs One rig is in the original box with printed display card. Labeled"Dr. Louis T. Kurtis. DeTour Village, MI" This rig has cross members that are designed to be inserted into the body of a minnow. They intersect inside the minnow and both the vertical and horizontal sections have two sets of treble hooks. It measures 4 1/2" w/o the hooks. The box, label and rig are all in VG condition. The other rig appears to be quite early(1900 to 1920's) It looks a little like a small set of ice tongs(5 1/4" long when closed) It is similar to spring loaded hooks that were made by a company called"Monarch" but it is not marked. To"set" the trap, a minnow would be threaded onto the hook in the middle, and the arms of the rig would be spread wide apart. When ... morea fish takes the bait, he would not only hooked in the mouth, he would be impaled in the sides by the arms. The card that is shown came with the hook. It states that the hook is 3" long and has 2 hooks. The device pat. by Nathan A. Gardiner Jr. of Willet, NY in 1864. The device works by a tug on the line tie releases the hooks out to the side. It traps the fish in its hooks. The overall condition is very good to excellent. It has no noticable rust. I was told 1923 was the creation date because of the numbers on the wood structure rod(SEE PIC#5) Original finish. Original head, no cracks, no repairs, all original parts, frets are in good shape no excessive wear, original tuners plastic is good and they work great, nothing missing, complete, it has a new set of strings. The trap door opens by turning a knob on the back, SEE PIC#2) The door is spring loaded to open. Then you clip a metal bracket to the metal truss rod in side the instrument to hold the trap door in place(SEE PIC#4) This has to be done carefully. Cool item Should display well very unique looking. I am not real sure what this is looks like some kind of water drain. Turn the handle and it opens up as you can see in the pics. Its marked E.J. First we have to hike into one of my two 50 acre remote placer claims then shovel dirt and move small& large boulders to get down to where the gold hides. Sometimes taking hours and even days of diggin the same hole to get to bedrock. I use a bazooka gold trap sluice box that cleans the concentrates very well so there ... moreis little light material and little black sand as I am high up in the creeks. I will screen the concentrates down to 1/8 th to save shipping weight. Sometimes when I am cleaning out the bedrock I only process a couple of buckets in 1 hour. But the amount of gold is better. I will put any gold larger than the 1/8 into your concentrates, but it is very unlikely as I have yet to find gold larger than 1/8 th in this area. Close but no; I cannot give an accurate shipping weight because it is different each time. Guessing about 1/2- 2+ pounds. The bazooka sluice has a 1/4 inch classifying grizzly. You will get flour, flakes and the occasional small pickers(hopefully) as this is what I find. Your eyes will light up just like mine do when you see yellow in the bottom of your pan.
