Lillian Cameron the original owner of Lakair Lodge built the cottages around 1948, at the end of the Second World War. The first cottages were open-stud walls with open cathedral ceilings. Each cottage had a wood stove for heat and each assigned to its own "numbered" outhouse.
Since that time there have been many changes and our cottages now come complete with 3 piece baths (inside toilets, and hot showers), up-to-date kitchens with full-size fridge, stove, coffee makers, toasters and microwaves. The beds are constantly being replaced in order to provide the best comfort for our guests.
The cottages still maintain their "'50s" look and charm.
We pride ourselves on keeping them well maintained and get many compliments from our guests on how clean they are kept.
You'll find no TVs in our cottages, and no phones. Many of our guests actually prefer not having TVs and other distractions in the cottages. This quiet atmosphere provides a great opportunity to spend quality time with your family and friends enjoying a board game or cards.
Open the windows on a warm night and you may fall asleep listening to the loons calling across the dark calm waters or the sound of the winds blowing through the pines.
For those who need their contact with the outside world we have a pay phone in the main lodge and most cell phones work in our area. We have a computer set up next to our Snakbar where guests can use free Internet access. Beginning in 2010, we now porvide wireless internet to all of our cottages. This is a free service provided by the lodge. There is a TV, in the lodge’s dining room, where you can watch special events.
