Vintage Japanese Fish Float Light Green Bubbled Unique Inner Nipple Sealed Small
This is a small vintage Japanese fish float found on the island of Kauai. Hawaii. I would assume during the 50's- 70's. Not an expert on glass floats. It's a light color green with bubbles and has a unique"nipple" when it got sealed. Most of the bubbles are inside of the float. Some raise to the surface and burst. Size is 10 1/2 inches round. Seal is 2 inches across and 1 inch wide. Very thick seal. No makers mark. Condition is very good to good. I really don't know how collectors would rate this. It has no cracks. 21 Antique Japanese Glass Float Fish net Buoy
50 years ago this item sat on the kitchen counter of our family home in a basket of wax fruit and was designed to be the grapes. But it actually is a collection of 21 Japanese glass floats. Buoys. They are dark green and have a circumference of 6" and is 2" across. They have a metal holder at the base which is wired onto a piece of driftwood. We have opted to remove these from the storage box in the hopes of a person purchasing them and will cherish them as we have in the past. This would make a nice centerpiece for your home. This float measures about 7-1/4” in circumference and about 2” in diameter. It is in pretty good condition with less than usual surface scratches and wear. Though there are 2 distinct horizontal lines going around its circumference(also intersecting) which may be cracks? There’s another 3/8” similar line near the top. And two“off-shoot” lines from the long ones encompassing the float. I’ve tapped on it pretty hard and placed pressure on these“crack lines” but nothing gives. I’m thinking they are cracks and not manufacturer imperfections. There is a large“DG” D– ¼” and G- 3/8” stamped left center and high over the button seal itself. There appears to be a 2 nd“D” positioned 1/8” below and left of 1 st“D” I believe this is the stamp from the Daiichi Glass K.K. of Japan. The button seal itself is slightly concaved. The seal has a ¼” ... moreand two 1/8” chips around the button seal seam. The chips feel a little sharp to the touch. There's maybe ½ dozen air bubbles visible. Largest being a 3/16” and the rest smaller. The float looks pretty round and nicely shaped. There’s an cool 1” long and thin“S” glass swirl near the top. A very cool float with interesting character for sure! These glass floats are all original and are as found. and have the usual wear, bumps and impact abrasions from surfing the big waves found here. Appears to have 3 of them, one partially off the float seal, another which seems like a double print. The button seal is intact with just two very small 1/16” chips to its seal edges. Opposite the pontil. The more yellow photos are without flash. Backlit with 7.5 volt white light bulb to show bubbles. The two sets of 4 similar photos are ball turned 1/4 turn each time. There are few scratches and some light etching. There is a brown/ yellow coloring on interior towards swirl end. The more arched. How it got all the way over to the east coast is a mystery. This one is a beauty. The rope is original and still has tar residue in the fibers. Probably from the California coast. The mark is the back to back F. The color is more of a teal than green. The last photo is most accurate. No cracks or chips that I can see. There are lots of bubbles and straws within the glass itself, showing its age. The float measures 42 inches in circumference, including the rope. It is about 12 inches on diameter. Vintage Spanish Metal Fish Float / Buoy with 2 Lighthouses!
I found this vintage metal buoy. Which is about 5 1/4 inches in diameter, on a beach in the Caribbean. This is a great example of a"working float" that is, one that was really used in the sea. This buoy has TWO clear, boldly embossed lighthouses on it, in addition to some clear writing, including patent information. The writing also says“Made in Spain” and“La Coruna” This float is ready to hang in your office or in any corner of your home that you'd like to decorate! At roughly the size of a softball. This would be easy to work into a variety of displays, including bookshelves, entertainment centers, etc. and this kind of float looks great on a deck-especially at a lake house. Little is known about this type of buoy—some think they are mooring buoys. Some think they are floats that would have been used in net fishing. I suspect ... morethey were used as both, though I’m still researching. I believe this float is from the early-to-mid part of the 20 th century. You can see from the photos that this float has had a long working life—its scars tell stories that no words can! Despite these scuffs. The float is in remarkably good shape. This makes a great conversation piece in the office or in your home, as well as a great gift for fishermen and anyone interested in nautical history. A rare pair of olive green European glass fish floats being sold together as one lot. Left is a BY5 Anchor and right is a JfishA. The embossing on the BY5 is light but no damage.
