She probably bought it in a second-hand shop. It dates to no earlier than mid-1960, due to the“RN” registration number] on the tag[RN 16985] ... moreI couldn’t find any information about the VAL Mode brand name except for a reference about being designed for“better department and specialty stores. The sewn-in cloth tag gives the size as“30. I estimate it to be a Small to Medium(see measurements below) The cut of this slip is like that of a pencil skirt and would work well under a slim or straight skirt. Description and Condition This well-made half-slip is in excellent condition for its age and prior use. With one imperfection noted on the left side in the back, about half-way down: a 1 ½ inch by 1 ¼ inch area with faint lines that almost look like gray ink/type had rubbed off on it. The marks seem to be permanent. This flaw is not very noticeable and would not affect wearability, since it is located on the back of an undergarment. Other than the marks noted above. The fabric is in excellent condition, smooth, with a low sheen. No holes, tears, rips or weak spots are present. Besides its unusual color. This slip does not have the usual elastic waistband but relies on a rear(6 inch metal HOLLY) zipper and 5-inch side darts(front and rear) for fit and shaping at the waist. I know this reel has been fished with. Because it has reel seat rubs on the foot, and the leader has been cut back a little and new tippet tied on-but, although the paint does have a few minor nicks and rubs, it doesn't exhibit the degree of edge-rash one expects to see on a used reel. And I can even see how the previous owner accomplished that-the reel is set up for RH retrieve, but the chromed line guide has been turned around for LH retrieve; since the line guide sticks out a 32nd or so from the body of the reel, it, and not the black paint, took the punishment. Clever bugger. Anyhow, the reel is in A9M9 condition(I'd call it M10, except that I refuse to believe in perfection) The floating weight forward line on it felt right when cast with a 6-wt. rod, so I'm assuming it's a WF6F line, and it is backed with what looks ... moreto be 50 yds. of white 20 lb.
