Prarie Bee Camps Main Camp

Description

If you are looking for an extremely remote wilderness vacation with great fishing and without the cost of a fly-in, then Prairie Bee Outpost Camps might be just what you are looking for. Our outpost camps are located on Prairie Bee Lake, which is about an hour's drive west of Chapleau, Ontario.

The lake is known for Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, and Whitefish Fishing. Smallmouth Bass are the dominant species in the lake. Guests can expect to catch 30 - 50 Smallmouth per day depending on the weather and knowledge of the lake. There are spots where Smallmouth Bass are schooling in large numbers and then it's Smallmouth Bass after Smallmouth Bass. Trophy Smallmouth Bass over 20 inches are caught on a regular basis.

Any lake that has a high population of Whitefish produces massive size Northern Pike. Prairie Bee Lake is no exception. Even though traditionally most of our guests return year after year for the awesome Smallmouth Bass and Walleye fishing, we do have guests who target Northern Pike and are very successful. During the week most Pike hunters will pick up a Northern over 30 inches and sometimes fish that are 40 inches or larger. Northern Pike are common in the 2 to 7-pound range, which makes for a fun week of fishing.

When trolling the shorelines look for drop-offs or deeper underwater structure for schools of walleyes. You will get into the Walleye off the rocky points and drop-offs. Many of our guests run into these schools with catchable numbers of fish. When you run into these hungry schools of Walleye, it's just one Walleye after another before the evening sunset.

Hunting for Moose and Black Bear is exceptional. We offer Bull Moose tags for archery hunters as well as many baited stands in our 125 square mile Bear Management Area, which produces some of the best Black Bear Hunting in Ontario.

Ontario is world famous for Moose hunting. The hundreds of thousands of square miles of wilderness north of the Great Lakes is perfect Moose habitat. The land has a diverse structure ... morewith thousands of lakes and streams with plenty of swamps and marshes containing aquatic plants the Moose love to eat. Northern Ontario also has burn areas and logged areas where new growth of grasses and softwood trees produce an abundance of highly nutritious food. As a result the population of Moose is high.

Northern Ontario is also the most popular region for hunters because of the ease of access to prime Moose hunting areas. There are thousands of miles of old abandoned logging roads, AVT trails, snowmobile trails and ancient animal game trails where hunters can explore many miles of deep bush and have lots of opportunity to take a Moose. Prairie Bee Lake itself has many game trails where Moose come down to the water to drink every day. Checking out these paths along the shore for fresh scat is very effective in scouting Moose. In the fall the Bull Moose tend to drop their scat in three locations forming a scent triangle, which marks their territory and attracts cows. Scouting out these areas and setting up in a position to take a good shot will maximize your success.

We have Archery Bull Moose tags for WMU 32. We have the only cabins on the lake so essentially you have the whole lake to yourself. Prairie Bee Lake is a remote lake with a high population of Moose and our Moose hunting guests experience a high success rate.

The stretch of Boreal Forest north of Lake Huron and Lake Superior that stretches between Wawa and Chapleau is considered the top Black Bear hunting destination in Ontario and maybe ... moreall of Canada. High snow fall and temperature moderation from the big lakes allows the bears to den safely through the winter, which means a high survival rate of both adults and cubs. Combining this with a diverse land structure that produces streams, swamps, forest and open areas where much needed berry bushes and grasses to grow; a recipe for a huge population of Black Bears exist. Prairie Bee Camps is located in the center of it all.

Black Bears in the area average around 225 pounds with many of the older boars exceeding 300 pounds. On occasion Black Bears in the 400 pound range are harvested but bears that big are very smart and only the stealthiest hunters will ever see a bear that big. The big trophy bears in the 400 pound range do get harvested occasionally.
